  2. Had to make a sharp exit after the show for the long drive back. Too bad - would have liked to have hung around. I was at the back LHS with some of the view blocked by that 'thing' in the middle of the room. I didn't even notice the frilly decoration. Shows how bad the view was from there.. Seale-Hayne is quite an interesting place - previously an agricultural college and during WW1 apparently there was very important work on shell shock treatment carried out when it was requisitioned by the army. Wonderful views of Devon from the front too !

  4. You were there, jazzscriveyn? Saw the gig too - a good turnout and a delightful concert as usual. A bit too iffy weatherwise for outside in the 'Quad' but the Yellow Room worked out fine. Didn't get hold of one of those flyers though - there was a dearth of them where I was sat. 'Hanna's' makes an excellent base for the band.
  5. 250 copies only? Wow - nice find, head man ! Can't be many of those copies in the UK.
  6. Happy Birthday !
  7. Bob Downes 'Open Music' (Philips, stereo)
  8. Looks like I'll have to stick an order in for the Mulligan and the McCoy..
  9. Talking of Esoteric, it looks like they have also just reissued Henry Lowther's 'Child Song'. Newly remastered as well (this one was already OOP with Dutton Vocalion and fetching very high 2nd hand prices so it will be interesting to see how the sound compares). http://www.cherryred.co.uk/esoteric-exd.asp?id=4150
  10. I have a theory that there are probably very few decent copies of this LP in the UK. The MFP label was a cheapo offering sold in bulk at Woolworths etc. Sort of anti-audiophile and not likely to have been treated at all well by the average customer. Come to think of it - I did once see a decent copy of it but it was in a basement in Rotterdam.
  11. Excellent news. I passed on a not-great vinyl copy of this quite recently (every vinyl copy of this title I have ever come across has been abused !) so I will plan on getting this one. 'Esoteric' sounds like a better label for Mr Downes than the mega-naff MFP.
  12. I have that reissue LP too. Didn't think it sounded too bad - put will have to re-aquaint to check (it's a while since I've spun it). Was pleased to get hold of it for around a tenner, in any form. Only ever seen one copy (on a late lamented site ) of that Jaro International. Mono in a stereo sleeve I think ! (or was it stereo in a mono sleeve..)

  15. The Big Band are playing the 'Rossini Reloaded' down at Seale-Hayne today. Free too ! http://www.westbrookjazz.co.uk/mikewestbrook/diary.shtml

  18. I hear that Lansdowne Studios (or what was Lansdowne Studios before they gutted it to make a banker pad ) is back on the market for £12M. The old basement studio area is now a fancy kitchen/diner. Anyone fancy clubbing together to put a sneaky offer in? Yeah, 'Belladonna' is great. I have the Vertigo LP in the racks somewhere..
  19. Indeed - absolute bargain. Mine has been on constant rotation. Wish they would do the Dexter Gordon at that price !

    Vocalion

Just put an order in before the sale ends and noticed that several non-sale items had quickly and recently disappeared off of the site without any 'running low' warning. In particular - the Turning Point 'Creatures of the Night/Silent Promise'. Wonder what happened there?
  21. Blimey, is he still with him? He was in the Sanders lineup when I saw them back in 1990 !
  22. "musik für alle" - Sounds East German? (producer - E Honecker)
  23. 'Bredenborough' must be code for Salisbury. I recognise the photos of the town centre ! He must still live in Broad Chalke or there-abouts. Next time I am in the Salisbury Waitrose/John Lewis I'll look out for Toyah pushing a cart. Fripp is a very Dorset name, so no suprise with origination from Wimborne Minster.
