  1. Bobby Hutcherson 'Waiting' (BN blue label)
  2. That's right - I think they broadcast at least one of the George Lewis numbers on one of those BBC4 compilation shows but the whole thing has not been broadcast in full.
  3. Herbie Hancock 'Takin Off' (BN mono, DG both sides)
  4. Excellent news ! I think I have that George Lewis Jazz 625 - it will be good to see it again though. There was another really excellent one with Henry 'Red' Allen and Alex Welsh and his band.
  5. Just checked that price guide on the 'Jazz Collector' site and the nearest equivalent I could find was a trashed-sounding VG+/VG copy which went for (gasp) $1525 in 2010. Utter madness ! I reckon you can check in for that Antigua cruise and line up the pina coladas..
  6. Elvis Costello Mick McManus Big Daddy
  7. Aha - yes, I see what you mean. Didn't register with me - I thought it was part of their regular decor ! Kate was in good voice for the concert, I thought. Some very good interpretations of the opera material from her..
  8. There are big variations in the Yorkshire accent too. Locals can often pinpoint it to within a few miles of a locality. There are bits of Old Norse slang that can sometimes help to pinpoint it too.
  9. Jackie McLean "Jackie's Bag" (BN 47thW63rd/NY USA mono)
  10. Had to make a sharp exit after the show for the long drive back. Too bad - would have liked to have hung around. I was at the back LHS with some of the view blocked by that 'thing' in the middle of the room. I didn't even notice the frilly decoration. Shows how bad the view was from there.. Seale-Hayne is quite an interesting place - previously an agricultural college and during WW1 apparently there was very important work on shell shock treatment carried out when it was requisitioned by the army. Wonderful views of Devon from the front too !
  11. Larry Young John Young Althea Young
  12. You were there, jazzscriveyn? Saw the gig too - a good turnout and a delightful concert as usual. A bit too iffy weatherwise for outside in the 'Quad' but the Yellow Room worked out fine. Didn't get hold of one of those flyers though - there was a dearth of them where I was sat. 'Hanna's' makes an excellent base for the band.
  13. 250 copies only? Wow - nice find, head man ! Can't be many of those copies in the UK.
  14. Happy Birthday !
  15. Bob Downes 'Open Music' (Philips, stereo)
  16. Looks like I'll have to stick an order in for the Mulligan and the McCoy..
  17. Talking of Esoteric, it looks like they have also just reissued Henry Lowther's 'Child Song'. Newly remastered as well (this one was already OOP with Dutton Vocalion and fetching very high 2nd hand prices so it will be interesting to see how the sound compares). http://www.cherryred.co.uk/esoteric-exd.asp?id=4150
  18. I have a theory that there are probably very few decent copies of this LP in the UK. The MFP label was a cheapo offering sold in bulk at Woolworths etc. Sort of anti-audiophile and not likely to have been treated at all well by the average customer. Come to think of it - I did once see a decent copy of it but it was in a basement in Rotterdam.
  19. Excellent news. I passed on a not-great vinyl copy of this quite recently (every vinyl copy of this title I have ever come across has been abused !) so I will plan on getting this one. 'Esoteric' sounds like a better label for Mr Downes than the mega-naff MFP.
  20. I have that reissue LP too. Didn't think it sounded too bad - put will have to re-aquaint to check (it's a while since I've spun it). Was pleased to get hold of it for around a tenner, in any form. Only ever seen one copy (on a late lamented site ) of that Jaro International. Mono in a stereo sleeve I think ! (or was it stereo in a mono sleeve..)
  21. Hen Gates Mother Hen B. Bopstein
  22. Uri Geller Herb Geller Herbie
  23. The Big Band are playing the 'Rossini Reloaded' down at Seale-Hayne today. Free too ! http://www.westbrookjazz.co.uk/mikewestbrook/diary.shtml
