  1. One more vote for the Clarke/Boland. A good one !
  2. Bela Fleck Herr Flick Lieutenant Gruber
  3. Two mentions of the Big Ben Banjo Band on this heavy-duty jazz site within the week !
  4. The Miles and JJ Johnson signatures certainly look authentic !
  5. A nice Mosaic to spin right through on a hot Summer's day
  6. Glorious weather out here - not too hot, just right in the high 20s. Just right for pruning the hedges and listening to Harold Land.
  7. Blind Lemon Pie The Ruttles Dinsdale Pirhanna
  8. Le Son 'y Ra Batman Boy Blunder
  9. That was the 'core' of the Evans band I saw at Ronnie Scotts. Certainly Barker, Weller, Ray Russell and Chris Hunter were there. Frank Ricotti was added on vibes and Ian Carr included in the trumpet section, I think. Remember the 'Lttle Wing'. Gil played quite a bit on Fender-Rhodes.
  10. Amazingly good read. What a character !
  11. Skinnay Ennis The Thin Man Myrna Loy Dermot Murnaghan Jeremy Bowen Jeremy Bentham
  12. At least Viz is still going strong..
  13. Saw him a couple of times at Ronnie Scotts, along with Danny Richmond. One was with Mingus Dynasty, the second time was the Adams/Pullen group (around the time that 'Don't Lose Control' LP came out).
  14. Wow. That's good to know. Thanks for the tip. That looks interesting. Thanks. MG I have one of those too. Works fine.
  15. Didn't 'Look and Learn' also run the Dan Dare comic strip after the Eagle had stopped? Still have several Eagle Annuals, bought second hand. As collectable as Mosaics now ! Sixties into the seventies for me. At the time I thought 'TV21' would be the way we would all live around year 2000 and was looking forward to getting my jet back-pack and wearing Baco Foil suits. That one looks pretty naff. Up there with the Andy Pandy Annual.
  16. Fergus Wilson Maynard Ferguson Massey Ferguson
  17. Mr McHenry Macavitty Macca
  18. Re: the Security - the Army did a fantastic job. I went through their checks - efficient, courteous and competent. Very professional as per usual ! Much of the thrill in the Stadium was the massive noise from the crowd (never witnessed anything like it in terms of intensity) and the excitement and flag-waving from many nations. It was a show in itself.
  19. Wow - that brought back the memories. 'Look and Learn' was my usual Saturday essential purchase - along with a Whizzer & Chips chaser. Used to enjoy the TV21 Xmas Annuals !
  20. Les Jazz Modes/Gene Quill 'Jazzville 56' (Dawn, DG mono) Not a bad £6 worth !

    Vocalion

That would be 'Big Ben's Banjo Band' from the Wheeltappers & Shunters Social Club. Don't know if Vocalion 'do' them. Take away the shag pile and add a record deck and it could pass as my lounge too
  22. '76 also - new though (cutout). Knew nothing about Von but thought the cover looked cool and as RRK produced it, it must be good. Bought in WH Smiths, would you believe - £1.99 !
