The Grey £. Re-living the 1960s and 70s - all across the South Coast from Bognor to Sidmouth !
  3. Sounds crazy I know - but it really does make a difference with the LP12 Linn standard mat (which is still the best for this turntable IMO). Once you determine the 'correct' side it is worth making a small chalk mark as a reminder of which side is the correct one.

My order for 'Manuel & His Music of the Mountains' has just gone in !
  5. Sad news to start the day to. First heard him around '76 when I bought the Atlantic LP as a cutout. His sound was truly unique and endearingly off-centre - RIP.
  6. Wendell Culley Joe Newman Snooky Young
  7. I think the original Mole building and sign are still there. Well over 20 years since it was vacated ! Seems to have survived the St Pancras demolition blitz. Worth taking a glimpse if you happen to pass King's Cross.

Falls off of chair... My guess was right ! 'Movement' for sure was only issued on LP in mono and is mythical in any condition so this is a holy grail recovery. Agreed - a no-brainer. Will certainly pick up the 'Flute & Nut' too. Don't have that particular one on LP, it was originally released on RCA - as was 'Harold McNair'. The latter is pretty damn nice (came out twice on LP, the latter issue on B&G).
  9. I'm still using my original Zerostat, purchased back in 1979 Seems to work fine. With the LP12 I use Linn's bog-standard mat, never seem to have too much of a static problem. You need to put it the right way up though (matted weft), otherwise a bit of harshness of sound creeps in !
  10. Steps 'Smokin' In The Pit' (Nippon Columbia 2LP)
  11. Well, I for one will miss the Olympics. Still trying to recover from Thursday night - witnessing it in person puts a whole new perspective on the track and field events.
  12. Paz 'Live In Chichester' (Magnus) Signed by all the band on the back !
  13. Linda Sharrock Linda Lovelace Ada Countess of Lovelace
  14. Have a good one !
  15. Gordon Beck + Two 'Half A Jazz Sixpence' (Major Minor DG mono)
  16. Lightning storm and heavy thunder to mark the end of the Olympics..
  17. I had the feeling he could do it. A lot of inner strength in this chap - a pretty special athlete. Arise Sir Mo !
  18. Ben Webster 'See You at the Fair' (Impulse organge/black mono orig) Great find for £2
  19. Ben Johnson Amy Johnson Dr Johnson
  20. Sorry to say that I have now headed back West but I wish you a very enjoyable stay ! Yes, 'Ray's Jazz' is about the last specialist shop left in London. Worth checking the Fopp stores for possible bargains (there's one just off Shaftesbury Avenue at Cambridge Circus) - and maybe also HMV on Oxford St (reasonable choice but no bargains).
  21. Nice photos. Great to see Mike W. back on electric keyboard !
  22. I was there in the stadium for this 800m WR race and it was an astonishing run by David Rudisha, a most worthy Olympic gold medalist in a superb lineup of runners. Definitely the highlight of a spectacular evening - and that includes the Usain Bolt 200m. The atmosphere in the Olympic Stadium was electric ! Bolt coasted it in the latter part of his race after destroying the competition before the first 50 was out. If the stories in the media are true, could be that I've just seen his last major sprint final.
  23. Yes - Dutton Vocalion have the Dankworth 'What The Dickens'/$1M Collection' in print. There's also a twofer of 'Lifelines/Full Circle'. Both are great. Dutton
