  1. Not being an expert on '321...' Roger ( ) but I have a feeling that it ended over 20 years ago so - suspect that is a 'yes'.
  2. Coleman Hawkins David Coleman Mottie
  3. Edvard Grieg Gregg's George Osborne Mr Pastry Eric Pickles Wilfred Pickles
  4. Always worth catching. Very nice guy too !
  5. No, a certain 'piano tinkler' beloved of the Cheltenham hordes !
  6. Cardinal Newman Cardinal Fang Cardinal Biggles
  7. Ronnie Scott on '321..' ? Unbelievable - thanks for posting this.
  8. Nice score! Bob Downes is great! Cheers. By minor miracle the copy was mint ! Now spinning: Michael Garrick 'October Woman' (Argo, stereo)

  11. Thank goodness they didn't give it to 'you know who'. Only a matter of time before Jedward gets on the show I guess.
  12. Bob Downes 'Open Music' (UK Philips, stereo)
  13. Really? No complaints at all with the sound of my LP copy, although Pye pressings could be somewhat 'iffy'. The Louis Bellson is good - I was there on the night some of that was taped.
  14. I seem to remember that Ronnie was also a Joe Henderson man. Yes, that is definitely true. Several times I remember him opening a set with 'Recorda Me'. He also used to mention Joe Henderson in his jokes (ie. 'We have Joe Henderson in the club next week....(audience gasps).... Joe 'piano' Henderson.. )
  15. Sat through quite a few performances by Ronnie with his various bands and there's no doubt that he was one of the very finest tenorists to ever come from these shores. His playing had a very strong Mobley influence, extremely lyrical with great sense of 'structure' in his solos (and minimum grand-standing). In the 'Couriers' days Tubby was still developing and very much the young gun, whereas Scott was the more established player and a UK 'touring veteran'.
  16. Yikes ! Taking into account the number that were pressed though, I'm not suprised.
  17. That's true. One of the good things about cricket (watching Boycott bat etc.) is that you can also snooze/have a beer/listen to 'Tales../Tarkus' etc
  18. Really? A highlight of the year (or any year) in my view, considering the last one here was 1949. Unmissable, whether or not you are watching the sailing from Weymouth, track events in the stadium (wish there had been more tickets on offer though) or just catching it all live 'on the box'.
  19. This Summer is going to be a washout for weather. It's the Olympics, remember? Weird flash floods on Friday evening - 'Independence Day' clouds, lightning and heavy hail covering the whole of the Somerset Levels. Must be a Somerset thing (probably true - they get all of the cr*p coming up from Lyme Bay).
  20. Ebeneezer Good Jack Good The Goods (Life)
  21. Clear blue skies down here. We had a bit of hail last week though.
  22. Aditoff Gene Orloff Van McCoy
  23. Me want ! Now spinning Jackie McLean 'Action' (BN Liberty, stereo)
  24. Happy Birthday !
  25. Sorry to hear of this - RIP. He was on so many fine sessions. My fave is probably the 'Slightly Latin' date with RR Kirk in which he was paired with Martin Banks in the trumpet/flugel 'section'. Big too for the McCoy Tyner Big Band recordings.
