  2. Indeed ! Brilliant set - now playing disks 4 through 7. It was either that or the 13 hour re-run of the 1992 Election on BBC Parliament (best comedy on today's TV schedule ).

  8. No. Didn't hear about that one. A friend of mine saw S.T. at Ronnie Scott's and said he was old and ailing. Perhaps that was the same tour. That was the same year I saw the hand-made village hall sign advertising a Stanley Turrentine + backing band gig that night in the middle of nowhere, not far from Culloden Moor ! Talk about unexpected, nearly crashed the car with shock

I'll take a punt based on what they've been putting out over the past. Just about everything by Michael Garrick has been released - with the exception of 'Poetry and Jazz 250', so that must be a candidate, perhaps? I'll bet that at least one of the Neil Ardleys must be a prime candidate too.. One of these betting sites such as Paddy Power ought to do a Vocalion new jazz issues sweepstakes.

Maybe the Ric Colbeck will see the light of day on CD reissue this time round? I agree that the two Neil Ardleys would also make really great reissue candidates. Both are excellent.
  14. Good stuff. Much more preferable than that excuse of an exhibition of pointless bling by Damien Hirst in Tate Modern. Only £36k in the gift shop for a spun painted skull. Struth !

In your dreams! Really? Well, it would be nice - after all this time. I would also like to see Joe Harriott's 'Movement' and 'High Spirits' out on CD but I guess both of these would be minor miracles too.

  17. The author was on the TV here the other night - in a 'return to the Falklands' programme, where he was a prominent war reporter for the task force. He had some good insights on the whole thing, amazing to think it was 30 years ago. Must pick up a copy of that '39-45' title myself...

Excellent ! Glad to hear that the new jazz releases continue to trickle through. 'Hum Dono' maybe?
  19. 'Count Basie Complete Roulette Studio Sessions' - time today to dig out the vinyl !
  20. Picked my CD up for a couple of bucks at that mega-brilliant Fantasy sale a few years ago, thanks to our Mr Weizen George Braith 'Extension' (BN NY USA, stereo)
  21. Do you mean the coin (aka "Loonie") or the worth-more-than-the-US-currency itself? I liked the Canadian dollar better when it cost 62 cents. Then I went to Montreal 2-3 times a year. Thank you for visiting. The 62-cent CDN dollar kept me out of New York, though. (Maybe you should be thankful for that! ) The period I spent in Canada it went down from about $0.9 US to about $0.6 at the worst point (around the time of the Quebec referrendum) and there were very big increases in taxes. Trips to the US and UK became very expensive. Of course, it improved within years of leaving - but I guess it could reverse back when/if the commodities boom subsides.
  22. I'm jealous. Mine is still mid-Atlantic stuck in the damn mail ! Maybe I will get an Easter present delivery? A very early morning spin of Tal Farlow, CD5. Nice !
