  1. I've still got my old 70s DJM LP of this music - 'Eric Dolphy Memorial Album'. Must dig it out !
  2. Happy Birthday Alex !
  3. Andrew Lansley Andrew Hill Jimmy Hill
  4. 'Miles In St Louis' (VGM)
  5. More speculation on this case from the Telegraph. Living and working in London seems to do strange things to people.. Man In Bag
  6. Strangely enough - Based on facial recognition I'm pretty sure I saw him (or his double) when I caught an overnight flight to the States (Washington), about 6 months before this happened. They were sat right by me on the plane deck. In the departures lounge he was part of a bunch of dark-suited characters who I thought immediately at the time had to be something to do with government. At the time I thought either 'military' or Civil Service - almost right as it turned out.
  7. The 'Forum West' set is great - that was my introduction to Joe Haider. Must look out for the 'Focus Jazz' (sadly long since disappeared from UK shops).
  8. I recognised the track by the Kuhns from the 'Forum West' but otherwise drew a complete and utter blank ! Will definitely have another listen or three. Some very interesting music on this BFT and lots of new artists/tracks to get acquainted with !
  9. Sadly, no hot pasties..
  10. My car doubled as a submarine on one of the local roads this morning !
  11. Happy Birthday !
  12. This is turning into a Mike Westbrook thread but I make no apologies for that. Drewsteignton is a lovely little place on the edge of Dartmoor - if it's like the last time I went the gig will be in the barn adjoining the Drewes Arms (entry via the graveyard !). Recommended ! Edited to say that yes, it is on 22nd July. I was thinking of the 'Off Abbey Road', which is in London in August (and with Brian Godding on guitar ).
  13. That makes me feel a bit better about not braving the torrential rain in an effort to see the Westbrook concert. They are back at Drewsteignton in August so I'd better make it next time ! Local rivers and ditches next door are full to overflowing here too..
  14. John Coltrane 'Sun Ship' (MCA Impulse)
  15. I was planning on driving down out West to see Mike Westbrook's big band this afternoon - however the predicted weather for the whole area looks abysmal and the drive would be an ordeal. What a shame !
  16. Ludo Kennedy Leonard Chess Leonard Cheshire Cheshire Cat Top Cat Bagpuss
  17. Happy Birthday !
  18. I guess the only reason that snippet survived was that it was used on some compilation program. The rest of the show (and the master tapes) were 'apparently' wiped by the Beeb. I keep hoping that by some miracle, the BBC will unearth a previously unknown full copy. Too bad that Bob Monkhouse wasn't recording jazz on his VCRs .
  19. I thought the roof was going to blow off last night !
  20. Yes, he's brilliant. A good article about him in this month's 'Jazzwise' (he's just turning 70). The first time I saw him live many years ago he was with Elvin Jones' Jazz Machine, along with Pat LaBarbara in a 2-tenor front line. Skid mentions this gig in the article. That band was incendiary !
  21. Looks like Jimmy Page in drag.
  22. Clare Fischer 'Surging Ahead' (UK Fontana, mono)
