  1. For late period Woody in very good form and with the added bonus of Joe Henderson also in the front line, Neil Swainson's '49th Parallel' on Concord, recorded in Toronto, is hard to beat. Nicely recorded too.
  2. Some of those weird new 'UK' labels seem to be doing that. For example that Harold Land Live in Vancouver material was up on dime before the retail CD came out. Sucks !
  3. Good deal on the Turrentine - nothing to tempt me here unfortunately.
  4. George W Bush on a bad day?
  5. You were lucky ! Try curry and/or chilli con-carne ! How about fish? You can smell that around the corner! It's the one's that bring this crap to eat at their desks that really wind me up !
  6. Only missing was a wrap-up gig in the capital.... Exeter.
  7. Clarke/Boland Big Band 'Faces' (UK Polydor, stereo) Nice !
  8. Saw exactly the same group at a small club in Canada a few years earlier and it was ace ! I was much impressed not only with the playing of Chico (master of dynamics) but the quality of the group lineup and their splendid group sound.
  9. Sadly, I didn't make it over to Drewsteignton yesterday as a result of being grounded with a sinus problem. Maybe I'll make an exped though to the Totnes gig in early September.
  10. You were lucky ! Try curry and/or chilli con-carne !
  11. Sad news - I also read about this passing recently. I have a video somewhere of Buddy Rich being introduced to him in the middle of one of Rich's shows at the 'Talk of the Town', London, back in the 1960s (he was sat right at the front of the show). The obvious respect of Rich's greeting to Mr Delaney spoke volumes. Nice recollection, Bill !

  14. Good to hear. I paid £7-8 a few years ago for the hardback. With protective binding and as new !
  15. Happy Birthday !
  16. Yes, I have a copy of that one by Mike Hennessey too. Never realised he (Klook, that is) was married at one time to Annie Ross !
  17. Not staying for the night, are you? I saw the Village Band 2007 in Drewsteignton and stayed at the Old Inn right across from the Drewe Arms: Big fireplace, good breakfast and rooms. - Either way, enjoy the Big Band! Wish I could. Sadly I have to be back in work on Monday. What a great little place Drewsteignton is !
  18. Herbie Hancock 'The Prisoner' (UK Blue Note, orig) This is an interesting one, from 1970. US Liberty/UA heavy-duty jacket with a UK pressing Liberty/UA blue/white LP (Van Gelder in runout). This is the only UK Blue Note of this type that I've ever come across - similar to those German Blue Notes of similar vintage. Best sound quality for this session I've heard (time to ditch the Pathe-Marconi DMM ).
  19. I'll be at the Dartington Hall gig (8th Sept). - Anyone else? Not sure about the Dartington - possibly - if I get my act together I hope to be over at the Drewe Arms tomorrow. Will report back.
  20. 'Nuclear War' is worth checking out - if mainly for the vibe..
  21. At a record fair today I saw a very similar combination - Gil Evans 'Out Of The Blue' with the US thick laminate cover and one of those 'Mr Creosote waffer-thin' ABC pressings inside with the green ABC-Paramount inner. Disappointing !
  22. Mike and the Big Band are back doing some more gigs in the West Country. Next one :- tomorrow afternoon at the Drewe Arms, Drewsteignton - a 'rural' gig, should be good. Opportunity for Bev if he is in the area?
  23. I remember seeing him on TV in the mid-70s with Clark Terry's Big Bad Band (rare BBC aberation to show jazz) and even recorded it. Still have the C-60 somewhere !
  24. I'll go out on a limb and say 'New and Old Gospel' - certainly this session has left the greatest impact on me, although I need to go and revisit the likes of 'Love Call'.
