  1. Big fan of that double album. Some good JJ on it.
  2. Still got Roy Haynes ! God bless Roy. Ditto. First time I saw him he finished off his set with that - using some form of cloth, I recall. I had the feeling it was a sphere but you are probably right, a glass bowl/dish.
  3. May he RIP. Saw him in performance 3 or 4 times and each time, William Henderson was on piano. The first time would have been at a club in 1990. The last time was late in that decade at Horace Tapscott’s memorial concert. It’s a real shame that he has left us but at least he got increased profile and respect in more recent years.
  4. What a great series that ‘West Coast Classics’ was !
  5. The Freddie set is now in stock at JazzMessengers. Just ordered it. They are also re-stocked with the Black and White set so have gone with that one too, whilst it is still around. The Hubbard set price in Euros is pretty steep though. I guess the big currency drop against the $ must be hitting hard. Now that I have retired I have plenty of Mosaic quality listening time in hand.
  6. The early disks in that set are quite bizarre - broadcasts on BBC Radio 1 in an era when jazz could actually sneak onto that pop channel. Within a few years it had been relegated to Radio 2 and the ‘easy listening’ crowd. Enjoying a spin of this 3CD Mosaic. Very enjoyable - and in good sound.
  7. Enjoying streaming the Cedar Walton from ‘89 (Kimballs show with the Trio) onto my hi-fi. Thanks for posting - will be delving into more of these, for sure. These shows are like being in a time machine. The Buddy Rich opens up with Hank Mobley’s latest offering ‘The Flip’ and then Buddy’s latest ‘Mercy Mercy Mercy’. Love it !
  8. The ‘Two Bones’ session first came out as a King LP in Japan, around 1980.
  9. Classic series 2LP. Recall that I saw her with a different trio in a club around the time this was recorded. Good day for an extended vinyl and Mosaic blitz.
  10. London Jazz Collector is not at all impressed with that statement in his blog !
  11. More emptying of pockets coming up - not even got the Black and White set yet ! I’ll likely be in for the JATP. Which reminds me, need to spin some stuff from the 40s ‘tea garden house’ box.
  12. Thank you ! Been touring various stately homes/gardens and sampling the National Trust cafes over the past few days - theres a whole alternative non-work universe out there of people having a lovely time. So far, agreeing with me big time !
  13. Need to order these. It’s worth ordering the CD set, the large format book and essay (with lots of pictures taken at the gigs) which holds the CDs is very well done. Simon Spillett’s very good essay covers the circumstances of the time with rampant inflation, power rationing and Cold War tensions. Hmmm - at least we ditched the brown carpets, flock wallpaper and Watney’s Red Barrel.
  14. CD1 of the 3CD set
  15. Got that one somewhere - must dig out. Kicking off several weeks hol with a back-to-back session of this set. Then I get to retire and free up even more listening time. I agree. Wish the Hoffman lot wouldn’t keep on referring to it as the ‘Wolfman’ cover though. No respect ! The Mosaic box is great, one I crack open on a regular basis. It is good that Gerald was still around when it was issued.
  16. Wow - superb !
  17. I’ve got the Hemphill on vinyl, will have to dig it out. Don’t do LP clearouts (but maybe I should) !
  18. Xmas comes but 3 times a year - Another spin for the Dukester.
  19. Yes. Also on one of the albums.
  20. Just been spinning this one again on vinyl - excellent. Victor Lewis’s ‘Seventh Avenue’ is always good to hear; when he was in Bobby Watson’s Horizon they used to feature that one too.
  21. Classic Series - wrong season but I don’t care. Have it on the Mosaic Select but good to have a nice sounding vinyl version.
