  1. Welcome back ! The limiting factor with Mosaics is if you are unable to get through your front door due to space taken up. A real issue for us UK residents. The Hubbard set is great. There was nothing new that I didn’t have elsewhere but It is so good to have the music in such excellent sound in one collection. They have done Mr Hubbard proud ! With regard to the exchange rate - it can only get worse..
  2. My Evans Verve is in that ‘cheapo’ Italian Verve version. Budget packaging but at least it doesn’t rust. Some of the CDs were scuffed though, not impressed with that. The ‘Secret Sessions’ is quite fascinating in small doses but the sonics are up there with Mosaics Benedetti Bird Box !
  3. I’ve opted for a copy of the Kenny Burrell, which should be with me on Tuesday. Decent deal on Amazon UK at the moment. Also gone for the Blue Train stereo masters on vinyl whilst it is readily available. Having heard on CD, they have done an outstanding job with this one.
  4. Hard to beat the selection on this 2CD set.
  5. Still got the LP version of that ‘Chronicle’ box but without the box and booklet. £1 per LP at a Mole Jazz sale. Have quite a few of the 24000 series Miles twofers too. Theres also this nice CD box.
  6. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0d65x0m BBC Radio 3 broadcast a show about the album on Tuesday’s ‘Free Thinking’. Available via the Sounds App and the panel includes Bill Laswell and Paul Tingen.
  7. Set #333 just arrived. Just spinning ‘Open Sesame’ and never heard it sound better on CD.
  8. Same here - not sure about all 3CDs as I have some Mosaics arriving but will give some of it a spin for sure.
  9. If it is like the previous releases, these will be vinyl plus streaming options up to HD. I don’t think the previous ones offered CD. Pre-orders are already up at Amazon UK.
  10. Mickey and his wife’s reaction is fantastic. Great stuff.
  11. Even when it was in print, I recall it being tricky to track down a copy.
  12. Had no problem finding a copy at my ‘local’. There was talk about the Craft UK distributor going bust but if so (and I have no evidence that they have) doesn’t seem to have affected this one. Nice pressing. ’Futuristic’ was also originally recorded in binaural, according to the (nice) notes - bizarrely.
  13. Interesting - most of the Hoffmeisters seem happy with it but at least one reports distortion on the title track. I’m holding fire on this one for now too.
  14. Today’s unexpected amazing find, as-new and signed for £2 ! I’d missed Alyn’s Book launch talk at Swanage this Summer and was really keen to get hold of a copy. Looks like a great read and covers some events of his that I witnessed (e.g the Henry Grimes interview for BBC Radio at Cheltenham).
  15. This new 2CD version of the stereo masters sounds great to my ears. May therefore ‘pass’ on the Tone Poet.
  16. From the Fontana box, with the nice bonus track.
  17. Sorry to hear this. Liked pretty well everything I ever heard from him - the George Benson sessions, the Lonnie Smith Blue Notes and his work with the Mingus Big Band, which was the only time I saw him I think. RIP - I’ll spin ‘Move Your Hand’ and ‘Drives’ in memory today.
  18. 2CD from Jazz In Britain. Caught them late ‘79. Roland Prince on guitar, Pat LaBarbera on saxes plus for the night I saw them, Alan Skidmore also on saxes. Elvin more on fire than any other time I caught him in later years. Don’t recall the ‘gruntaphone’ in the lineup either !
  19. Same here. Saw them a few times. Also around that timeframe, the duet tour of Carla Bley and Steve Swallow.
  20. ECM pressing - remember this tour when it happened, with Elton Dean and Hugh Hopper in the band - and Gary Windo. 45 years ago !
