  1. Indeed - I’d rather have superb session photography reproduced in a good booklet and a decent essay than creative packaging. In that area, Mosaic really score.
  2. Not too much to get excited about here - from my perspective. If I want e.g. Gabor Szabo ‘Sorcery’ the European 2-on-one CD which also included ‘More Sorcery’ is much more cost-effective and in more than acceptable sound. The Lateef title has been available over here on Universal vinyl in recent years. Might be interested in the Roy Brooks.
  3. CD1, kicking off with Art Hodes on a wet Friday. Set #049, one of the lowest In my collection.
  4. Nice pension payoff for achieving nowt and now keeping the seat warm for the return of............... Bozo !
  5. Given my copy a spin through both sides and no distortion noted - sounding good to me. Will do a re-check tomorrow but so far, no issues found.
  6. The other thing I remember of that Jazz Cafe appearance standing pretty near to Dr Lonnie was Steve Winwood stood right next to me diggin’ it like hell. Also Lonnie entering the venue front door just before the gig started carrying two Tesco supermarket carrier bags. Must have just stocked up on his groceries !
  7. It’s great to hear that he is still going strong and being recognised in this way. A great living link to the Blue Note of yore. I think the time I saw him at Jazz Cafe, Camden circa 2005 must have been one of his last live UK appearances. The late Dr Lonnie was on B3 that night so double bonus. Lou played a real mix of stuff, from ‘Blues Walk’ to ‘Alligator Bogaloo’ plus his usual dig at the fusion mob.
  8. Should have said ‘Edel’ of course instead of ‘Edsel’ as there is no way that this one is an automotive safety disaster ! The pressing and sound are first rate. Cover is fine, although looks to be a decent scan but has the bonus of a nice insert with extra notes. Very happy with this one. The Tone Poet stereo masters of Blue Train is predictably first rate. Kenny Burrell arriving later today ! I’ve gone with the (great) mono for many years but this stereo version from separate reel by RVG sounds equally wonderful. Not bad considering recorded in his parents’ front room !
  9. I like that mini-series. The Cedar Walton one is particularly good.
  10. Edsel MPS reissue with Clarke/Boland Octet. nicely done.
  11. I was in Binghamton some years ago and remember seeing the memorial to Serling that they have - might have been at the airport. In early December the place was bone-chillingly cold.
  12. JazzMessengers did have the Hubbard a few weeks ago - that’s where I got mine. Must have sold out quick but no doubt it will be back. Hear what you say about the damn customs charges and ‘processing fee’. Quite a ding when the latest package arrived.
  13. Welcome back ! The limiting factor with Mosaics is if you are unable to get through your front door due to space taken up. A real issue for us UK residents. The Hubbard set is great. There was nothing new that I didn’t have elsewhere but It is so good to have the music in such excellent sound in one collection. They have done Mr Hubbard proud ! With regard to the exchange rate - it can only get worse..
  14. My Evans Verve is in that ‘cheapo’ Italian Verve version. Budget packaging but at least it doesn’t rust. Some of the CDs were scuffed though, not impressed with that. The ‘Secret Sessions’ is quite fascinating in small doses but the sonics are up there with Mosaics Benedetti Bird Box !
  15. I’ve opted for a copy of the Kenny Burrell, which should be with me on Tuesday. Decent deal on Amazon UK at the moment. Also gone for the Blue Train stereo masters on vinyl whilst it is readily available. Having heard on CD, they have done an outstanding job with this one.
  16. Hard to beat the selection on this 2CD set.
  17. Still got the LP version of that ‘Chronicle’ box but without the box and booklet. £1 per LP at a Mole Jazz sale. Have quite a few of the 24000 series Miles twofers too. Theres also this nice CD box.
  18. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0d65x0m BBC Radio 3 broadcast a show about the album on Tuesday’s ‘Free Thinking’. Available via the Sounds App and the panel includes Bill Laswell and Paul Tingen.
  19. Set #333 just arrived. Just spinning ‘Open Sesame’ and never heard it sound better on CD.
  20. Same here - not sure about all 3CDs as I have some Mosaics arriving but will give some of it a spin for sure.
