  1. Tubby Hayes 'Mexican Green' (Japanese Fontana, stereo)
  2. Tommy Flanagan 'The Cats' (New Jazz DG mono)
  3. Strong recommendation on the 32 Jazz twofer. It's a very strong set.
  4. The old Kai-Tak airport at Hong Kong was pretty interesting. Especially flying between apartment blocks and watching the people put out their washing on the lines.
  5. Yep, I went there, it's like being in that movie with Bruce Willis: Die Hard 2. Seen it, done it too. With a HM Government flight ! (no - not a 'rendition')
  6. Good luck and best wishes to George !
  7. Um. Lizzie Borden Liz Taylor Liz Claiborne Liz II Liz 1 Mary Queen Of Scots
  8. She's a damn good singer too. Well worth catching in concert. Certainly seems to know her Betty Carter !
  9. George Russell 'The Jazz Workshop' (UK RCA Victor DG stereo)
  10. I don't find 'Soaring' and 'Haiku' too bad - although they are a little too 'new age' for my taste. About 10 years ahead of their time in that respect (they would have been at home on Windham Hill).
  11. A lot of sheep-shaggers on this Board. Diagnostic Overview: Your responses indicate that you're basically normal, except for your obsession with sheep and running naked in the moonlight. Electroshock therapy might help; taking foolish inkblot tests on the internet sure as hell won't. Get a hobby (one not involving sheep) and try to keep your twisted impulses under control. People who answer as you did grow up to be successful prostitutes or drug-dealers (or both). Long-Term Prognosis: You will need intensive psychological care for the rest of your life because of the factors described above. Stay away from other people if at all possible; just use the internet. Don't go outdoors or you're doomed. You are deeply scared of anything dangerous, violent, or threatening, which actually makes perfect sense, now that we think about it. Additional Fears: You're also afraid of cats, toasters, and bathtubs. This is silly- when was the last time bathtubs caused you any harm?

  13. Wow - Last time I was in that place was about 1971/72. To see the Halle Orchestra !

  17. Astonishing !
  18. I think there's a track from this on that Dizzy Reece New York radio interview (and from my memory it sounded really good) - would like a copy of the Futura though. Nice to see you back for a visit Brownie - I was just admiring your photos of Albert Ayler in the 'Holy Ghost' book last night.
  19. Rudy Valentino Shirley Valentine Shirley Crabtree
  20. So Blue Note beats the credit crunch then? :rsmile:
  21. Not even just SUVs.... delivery trucks to Walmart, Target etc. 18 wheelers. Drunk drivers. There's not alot around you in those Smart cars to protect you from anything. If everyone else drove one, it would even the playing field. But that ain't gonna happen. I remember picking up a sub-compact rental car in NYC. It looked OK as an option in person and would have been OK in Europe but when I checked it out I had second thoughts looking at the size and the salesman thought I was crazy to drive that in NYC. Paid the extra in the cause of safety !
  22. Barney Rubble Barney Kessel Wilson, Keppell and Betty
  23. I'm probably confusing it with the Bermuda Onion on Bloor St. West - which for sure didn't last long, although they had a fantastic venue and lineup (remember seeing Elvin Jones, Lee Konitz, Pharoah Sanders, Barney Kessel, Mongo Santamaria and Phil Woods there. Just missed Sun Ra and Oscar P.)
  24. Trago Mills - now there's a blast from the past !
  25. Serge Prokofiev Herge Tintin
