  1. For a minute I thought this was a thread about cheap East German SLR cameras !
  2. More sad news - RIP. I recorded a Stax documentary off the TV a few weeks ago where he features strongly. Must watch it this week.
  3. More Mati Klarwein. J Edgar Hoover in his 'Sunday best' - aka back cover of Live/Evil:
  4. I don't think it got the UK release the first time out. Early ones must have been US imports.
  5. Interesting comment recently on the Hoffman Forums. The original plans to issue Wayne Shorter's 'Speak No Evil' on the MM series seem to have been ditched in favour of Shorter's 'JuJu'. Apparently the sonics on 'Speak No Evil' were not great - wonder if there has been some tape deterioration? Never the greatest BN session sonically but I don't recall the sonics of the original LP being that bad.
  6. Pearl Bailey Mildred Bailey Red Norvo
  7. Good to hear. Can't wait to hear this set !

  12. Hi Dan - Please add these to my stash, if they are still available.. David Fathead Newman, Lonestar Legend (32 Jazz) $7 David Fathead Newman, Its Mister Fathead (32 Jazz) - four LPs on two discs - $14
  13. Music Matters 2x45rpm - Tina Brooks 'True Blue'. Pretty definitive issue (unless I come across an affordable mint mono - more chance of being hit by lightning). followed up by Music Matters - Horace Silver 'The Cape Verdean Blues'
  14. Nadia Boulanger Donald Byrd William Byrd
  15. Interesting. Don't recall ever seeing them around 'back in the day'.
  16. Ali G Borat BrĂ¼no
  17. Not quite up to the standard of the 'Mainstream' session, but you still need to have them Agreed. I picked up my copies of the Savoy LPs not so long ago so they are 'around'. Somehow I missed them when they were originally issued - possibly as they were US-only issues, unlike the 'Countdown' which was also issued as a UK release.
  18. Sorry to hear that. I'm 'Mosaiced out' but will also try to scrape the pennies together for this gem.
  19. Seems to have dropped a few more pence a litre here - almost afordable . Of course, the corporate morons on the main roads are all back racing to work at 80-90mph as if the gas crunch had never happened.
  20. Killer Joe Benny Golson Tom Hanks
  21. King Juan Carlos General Franco Don Quixote
  22. Would this be 'Countdown - The Savoy Sessions', from the mid-70s? That was an excellent sounding reissue on Arista/Savoy, with great liner notes.
  23. Who owns the rights to the Lansdowne material - assuming that the studio retains any rights? Is Dennis Preston's estate involved? There's some great stuff in the Lansdowne vault, such as 'Afro-Jazz' by Guy Warren, which has never seen the light of day since its vinyl issue. Well, as far as I know, Universal own the rights to this material. Dennis Preston sold up lock, stock and barrel some years before his death many years ago so I don't think the Preston estate would be a factor. Lansdowne did a very good recent remastering of Mike Taylor's 'Pendulum' on CD but that was yanked off the market pretty sharpish so there may be legality problems with their involvement - anyone know? It's suprising that the Japanese have not already reissued 'Hum Dono', as they did with so many of the Fontanas for example. Similarly the Guy Warrens - 'Afro Jazz', 'Emergent Drums' etc.
