  4. Kenny Clarke/Francy Boland Big Band 'Live At Ronnie Scotts' (German MPS/BASF 2LP stereo). Johnny Griffin RIP - he's tearing it up in inimitable style on Griff's Groove' right now.
  5. Shocking news. He was just in London a few weeks ago to promote the recent biography and do some book signings (he was also gigging at Ronnie Scotts that week I think). Now I'm kicking myself I didn't go. A wonderful player, I'm glad at least to have seen his concert a few years ago with George Coleman and it didn't disappoint. By all accounts, he seems to have had an idyllic last 20+ years living in a wonderful place with his wife in rural France so he had a great life. RIP Mr Griffin.
  6. Jackie McLean 'Action' (BN Liberty, stereo)
  7. Happy Birthday !!
  8. Quincy Jones 'Smackwater Jack' (UK A&M, stereo)
  9. RIP - very sad to hear this. Always liked his work with Miles and Quincy. I was just spinning that great 'Guitar Roots Odyssey' track from Quincy's 'Smackwater Jack' that he's featured on, the other day.
  10. Fair enough ! Must admit - I was surprisingly less than 100% knocked out on first listen to this set but after a few more listens it really got the feet tapping and appreciation of the set increased enormously. Acoustics are very good too.
  11. A burn of the Morton/Hamilton Swingtets LP !
  12. Top Rank record label - real 'blast from the past'. That was a chain of cinemas, bingo halls etc. Now spinning Ira Sullivan 'Horizons' (Atlantic blue/green, stereo)

  22. I've heard them but never seen them - and they sound very good. They were doing a gig at an upstairs venue at Cheltenham a few years ago with entrance restricted so unfortunately I could only listen from outside. They were groovin' !
  23. Sorry to hear that - get well soon ! Those Honda CB750s are indestrucible...
