  1. Sorry to hear about this but glad to hear that everyone is in 'recovery mode'. It is indeed a shocker when this sort of thing happens. Time stands still - momentarily.

  4. I always thought that was part of the charm of this session. Certainly adds to the live atmosphere !
  5. Cranking up at long last to 25C+ here. Tomorrow - the beach !
  6. I have a few of them - often stereos with 'Van Gelder' and no 'ear' - and they can sound very good indeed. Suprisingly good, in fact !
  7. Is the opening side of the LP off-vertical, as if the guillotine was cutting the thing at wrong angle? Every one of this title I've ever seen has had that ! Yes it is. I hadn't spotted it until you mentioned it. It is pretty obvious once you know it. Question about original BN titles: Do some records have a NY label on one side and a 47 west 63 rd on the other? Are these real original records? Can't seem to find my 'Cornbread' at the moment ( ) but I think this one was issued early on in the Liberty era - the front cover art should have 'Liberty' on it, even though the labels are NY USA. It would appear that the 'collectable' version of this title is the one with the straight side ! Re: 47W63rd mixes - There was a transitional period where some titles (Hank's 'Roll Call' comes to mind) had 'NY USA' on one side and '47W63'rd on the other, usually with deep groove and ear.
  8. Miles Davis 'Directions' (UK CBS, 2LP). Remember when this one originally came out - a bolt from the blue during Miles 'sabatical'.

  13. Effect of massed ranks of Cray supercomputers working overtime searching for Bin-Liner? With the occasional pensionable PDP-11 and Vax dumping additional crap into the mains..
  14. yup, that's why I bought a dreadfully expensive Japanese vinyl edition of that one - just as good an album as "Here and Now"! Of course that was two years or so before the Mosaic came out... and of course I also bought "Jazztet Plays John Lewis" on vinyl (though a cheap b/w Argo reissue of that one - it's likely my favourite album from the whole set!) I think I've got all of the Jazztet Argos and Verves (excluding 'Another Git Together') on Japanese vinyl but I'm still crazy enough to pick up the Mosaic . Fabulous stuff.
  15. Thanks, Jostber ! I think I got my 'Lanquidity' and 'Disco 3000' from Honest Jon's so there's another order heading their way soon.
  16. Miles Davis 'Seven Steps To Heaven' (Columbia 2-eye stereo) Miles Davis 'Sorcerer' (Columbia 2-eye stereo) Then the Mosaic Miles/Gil vinyl set. -_-
  17. JJ Johnson & Nat Adderley 'The Yokohama Concert' (Pablo Live, 2LP)
  18. Never seen a Pentangle LP that didn't look like that !
  19. Yes, 'Here and Now' came out as a Verve Elite Edition (I have it in front of me). Don't recall ever seeing 'Another Git Together' as a CD other than on the Mosaic though.
  20. Yeah, the McMaster CD doesn't sound the greatest so the MM is a big step up. A cheaper alternative might be to buy from Ron at Music Matters direct. They are just under $50 so with the favourable exchange rate it's about £25 plus shipping. I did see one of the sets (the Lou Donaldson + 3 I think) at a Diverse Vinyl stand some time ago and £47.50 is a bit steep (although cheap I guess compared to an original).
  21. Brown Bottler :rsmile: Gene 'Jug' Ammons Albert Ammons (all roads would seem to lead back to 'you-know-who'..)
  22. I used to have one of those Dust Bugs on my old Phillips music centre ( ) and I agree, it worked pretty well. These days I use a zerostat followed by a carbon fibre brush. Never tried it with the distilled water though !

  25. Good man. I think mine is 'in the mail'. Let us know what you think. Just spinning JJ Johnson/Kai Winding 'The Great Kai & JJ' (Impulse Am-Par, stereo)
