  1. Would your mother like another son? I'm very low maintenance, she'd love her daughter-in-law, and we come with two beautiful grandkids as well! Hey, next in line ! I'm Spartacus !
  2. Just listening to Herbie Hancock 'Hear, O Israel' on Jonny/Trunk and there is a really nice cameo performance by Jerome (mainly on flute but also a bit of alto on one bluesy track) within the context of a Herbie Hancock 60s group.
  3. Herbie Hancock/Jonathan Klein 'Hear, O Israel' (Jonny Records/Trunk).. Hey, this is good. A lot better than some of the posts on this issue led me to expect. OK, some of the singing is a bit dated perhaps but anyone who likes Herbie's 'Speak Like A Child' will like this I think. Trunk have also done a really fantastic job transferring from one of the (circa 200-ish) LPs possibly produced of this and the sound is excellent. Doesn't look as if the master survived though. Me likes !
  4. The credit crunch 'falling off a cliff backwards' effect has yet to hit daft vinyl prices it would appear. Give it time !
  5. Ah, the old Student's Union card. Worth it's weight in gold just for gig discounts alone.
  6. Frankie Vaughan Frankie Valli Frankie Goes To Hollywood
  7. Red Holland? - Red Holloway perhaps? Never saw Sonny live but I recall that he toured over here quite a bit - especially in the 60s and 70s. Yes, Red Holloway. The winning team in action again - me for memories - you for accuracy Yeah, just happen to remember the reports in the UK jazz press of the time. They did gigs at places like the Bull's Head in Barnes, I recall. Too bad I didn't check them out, as the opportunity was probably there.

  10. Froshmen set, perhaps? (I'm just jealous)
  11. Spike Heatley's still very much active, I think.

  16. That's not the Arhoolie symbol on the sleeve and label is it? - in which case it could be a California Arhoolie label issue of the Chess recording. 'AR 45-202' numbering seems to back this up. My guess would be late 60s/early 70s vintage.
  17. Uncle Ernie Ernie Wise Ernie the Fastest Milkman In The West
  18. Often heard them live, but never on record. What date was that? April 1963 date with Spike Heatley and the late Allan Ganley. A very good one too, well recorded. Amazingly, this vinyl is mint, I think it got left in a cupboard for about 40 years.
  19. Lurkio Pontius Pilate Biggus
  20. 'The Bill LeSage - Ronnie Ross Quartet' (World Record Club, stereo)
  21. Quite noticeable how the average speed on dual carriageways over here has dropped, as people economise.
  22. Got the Big Sur on CD, will dig it out. Currently - Pink Floyd 'Meddle' (Harvest)
  23. My copy of this is on a 70s Island LP. Released in the UK as 'The Legendary Quartet Album'. A bolt from left-field when it came out, on a label that were mainly putting out reggae and dub at the time. Great session !
  24. Alan Ball Jackie Charlton Nobby Stiles
