  1. Up again for another year. Happy Birthday Clunky !
  2. A GREAT ALBUM! Yep ! It's got to be the greatest thing ever recorded for A&M. Lovely playing by Desmond and fine arrangements for the strings and flutes.
  3. That's about the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen (apart from $500 OJCs)
  4. Paul Desmond 'From The Hot Afternoon' (Japanese A&M). Test record whilst I move various power supplies between mains sockets..
  5. From my memory, there were very good tracks on VHS (the McLean/Shaw/Tyner 'Passion Dance' comes to mind) which were suprisingly not on the DVD.
  6. I transfer from an LP12/Naim rig through the Naim pre-amp into an external Soundblaster card. Results at 24 bit resolution have been very good !
  7. Tubby Hayes 'Mexican Green' (Japanese Fontana stereo)
  8. Flood alerts all over the country again this week - I'm sick of driving through this stuff. The next couple of days are going to be interesting..
  9. It's very suprising that the Japanese have not reissued this on limited edition vinyl and CD, as they have done with most of the Tubby Hayes Fontanas, 'Cleopatra's Needle' and the like. Even if it is a needle drop.
  10. Curious about that one as well. Very nice date - it was done for Deram.
  11. Miles Davis/Bill Laswell 'Panthalassa' (CBS Sony Special Products 2LP)
  12. Big John Patton Mosaic Select, CD3. On auto-repeat.
  13. That one is a very good album indeed !
  14. George Benson 'Give me The Night' (UK Warner). Just testing the hi-fi (at least that's my excuse). Miles Davis 'You're Under Arrest' (UK CBS). What a weird Davis album. Comedy farce on track 1 and armaggedon on the last track.
  15. The Mosaic 'Complete Pacific Jazz Recordings' box should be first port of call. That one is a joy from beginning to end - and includes all of his 60s classics including 'Moment of Truth', 'Portraits', 'You Better Believe It' and 'The Golden Sword'. The later albums on there including 'Everywhere' and 'Eternal Equinox' capture the era well and have withstood the test of time I think. The recordings from the 80s and 90s on Albert Marx's Discovery label (out of LA) are worth looking for in the racks - 'Lomelin', Jenna' and 'Calafia' are particularly recommended. Check out also the very fine recent recordings - 'Theme For Monterey', 'State Street Sweet', 'New York, New Sound' and 'In My Time'. Full of good things.
  16. Miles Davis 'We Want Miles' (UK CBS 2LP)
  17. Hilton Ruiz 'El Camino (The Road)' (RCA Novus). With Sam Rivers.
  18. Alex Hutchinson Leslie 'Hutch' Hutchinson Leslie 'Jiver' Hutchinson
  19. Edsel Gomez Don Byron Mickey Katz
  20. Booker Ervin 'Structurally Sound' (Pacific Jazz/Liberty stereo)
  21. Grant Green 'Visions' (BN Liberty/UA blue/black stereo) Way cool cover art. This one (according to the back sleeve) can also be purchased on 8-track.
  22. Those Big John 'Rare Grooves' reissues (or in the case of this one, new issues) were great !
  23. Freddie Hubbard 'High Blues Pressure' (Atlantic green/orange, stereo)
  24. Yikes - looks like the Bitches Brew and IASW sets had a narrow escape.
