  1. I too, thought Chaloff was Jewish, so maybe both our memories are playing tricks on us. Probably Russian, not Russian-Jewish. Also, Margaret is the name of a saint -- not that all Margarets were or are now named after the saint, but back then I believe that many Margarets were. In any case, not too many Jewish girls named Margaret, at least not of Margaret Chaloff's vintage. Also, now that I think of it, not too many Jewish boys named Serge either. According to the booklet in the Mosaic set, she was of English descent. Margaret of course was not an uncommon name for Anglos of that vintage.
  2. Gil Evans 'Into The Hot' (Implulse red/black stereo)
  3. Herbie Hancock 'Crossings' (Warner 180g reissue)
  4. The one I always remember watching is 'Desert Rats'. Same plot every week, a load of guys in the desert in jeeps with heavy callibre machine guns employed in a constant shoot 'em up. Great viewing at the Saturday tea-time just before Doctor Who.
  5. Absolutely ! The cream of British session musicians at the time too.

  20. Good God ! I've still got one - absolutely identical to that one, stored away somewhere. Has a company logo on it (saved them giving us cash one Xmas), only ever used for car repairs.. Maybe it is a 'collectable' now and I can stick it on ebay?
  21. Another one bites the dust !
  22. Highly recommended - one of Booker's best albums. What a shame Candid only lasted that very short time in the early 60s. They hit the bullseye with awesome consistency.
  23. Which, I might add, is f'in fantastic... Thirded. That was one of the very first sessions that got me into jazz (on the UK Transatlantic LP issue) ! Teddy Charles on vibes (it was Charles' date I think and the arrangements are his).
