why do we collect all this music?
porcy62 replied to alocispepraluger102's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Yes, that's the difference between collecting records and an addiction. Being addicted to cigarettes, which I am, doesn't enrich my life and I know it. MG It's because "music" is socially accepted as cultural value. So if a woman would spend the same amount of money on shoes she would be "addicted" to shopping, meanwhile we are "enriching" our lifes. Consider this analogy, she probably will wear one pair of shoes only once or two in her life, exactly like us will listen once or two a cd, but this will "enrich" our life. BS. Unless you're Mozart that could wrote down a Mass after only one listening, you'll never "enrich" your life if you listened to a cd only once. An addiction is an addiction as far it generates a compulsive behavior. It may be more or less harmful, but is an addiction. Said that I'll have to go, I've got a couple of auctions on eBay -

Well, at least they have all those nice King pressings in Tokyo's vinyl shops. Indeed! I didn't take NEARLY enough money to Japan in 2002! England 28-3 to USA. But from what I see in BBC blog commentary (football on other side), USA showing up well from time to time. MG If there is one problem with this competition is that they are a lot of teams who are mostly looking for moral victories. I didn't get it, sorry, I mean what Italy are supposed to do against ALL BLACKS, or U.S. against ENGLAND? Men, it's like a W. Allen vs M. Alì match, and Woody would consider a moral victory if his heirs could have his whole corpse without have to look for pieces around the Madison Square Garden. -

A bit out of topic, but I remember when I had to bought a couple of external hard drives (SCASI) for my studio, an AVID digital editing suite, they costed around 4500 euros for a 9 GB HD, and I am talking about 15 years ago, almost the price of a midsize car. Shees..

True, but that man has to be cured. And there would be a lots to say about how owners grown their dogs in today's society. -

Claude, you're right hundred per cent, and I understand your desire to have good sounding BNs instead of that howful RVG cds, IMHO, and the outrageously expensive original pressings. The 45rpm I had of Relaxin' With Miles Davis Quintet, sounded slightly better then both the 33rpm Analogue reissue (17$) and obviously cleaner then the original pressing (167$), though not better enough to convince me to buy all the other 99 Fantasy 45rpm at 50 $. I admit I contracted audiophilias years ago when I had some sexual intercourse with tubed amps, but I am under therapy right now, so Dr. House forbidded to me to have more then two copy of the same record in different format. And you know how House is persuasive. BTW Life is too short for spending it comparing the countless realeases of Kind of Blue in search of the Holy Grail of the perfect sound, like they seems to do pretty often in Steve Hoffman forum. (And the fact that Mr. Hoffman is involved in the project... ) And I agree with Chuck too, I would go even further: go on and destroy the masters. Our heirs will have a treasure of original sounding stuff in a couple of generation.

Is there any chance of getting a "R.I.P. Thread/Link"?...

This might sound silly, but I'd prefer not. I certainly know what you mean, but I'd hate to see dead artists ghettoized in such a way. Their music lives on beyond them, after all, and there's no reason to seperate them in such a way, even in tribute/RIP threads. Exactly my thought. It's not fault of anybody if we are getting older and some of our musical benchmarks are passing away. Listen to younger musicians or to Bach and Pergolesi if you won't the mausoleum thread. -
Riposa in pace Big Luciano. As you sang: "All'alba vincerò".

Maybe some of you don't like the Zep, but the art and the role of Jimmy Page in the British Blues (and beyond) are undebatable. Far beyond then Clapton IMHO.

Atlanta Considers Banning Baggy Pants
porcy62 replied to porcy62's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
You're more entitled then me about the issue, from what you say, you've got a big problem if the banning fashion is due to firearms. Maybe you should start to ban firearms...a neverending discussion in your country. The funny and sad thing is that if a non U.S.citizen want to fly to U.S. he has to pass a triple X-Ray control at the airport and throw away any dangerous shaving foam and at the same time your teenagers have to wear a lycra pant because of free trade of firearams. Good Luck. -

Yep, there are hundreds of awful dress code out there, surely you can't start to appprove laws aginst bad taste, it would be an endless job. Personally I'd go to jail all the late Elvis' like guys. -
Love it. Duke is not surpringly gorgeous even outside his courtyard, like with Trane. The mark of the greats. Is it the original pressing? I've got the Classic reissue.

That's what my dad said when I played Trane's Ascension, but he added "noisy and unbearable" at "wild rumor".

What's wrong with this album? I love it, though it's not Zorn's best work, is far better then most of some other stuff he did. I mean he did A LOT OF STUFF.
