I'm expecting certain of my friends in Europe to buy me these and many others for x-mas. Tis the season... An excellent thought!!
  2. I went to this board... ... but all it told me was that there were WMDs in Iraq! ... ... (I turned it over and saw that it said: "Property of George W Bush"!

You don't think that Verve will issue domestic pressings, do you?
  4. I'm especially intrigued by the Evans section. There was a Beck discs called 'Seven Steps to Evans' that has long been OOP. I saw Wheeler and Beck do an Evans tribute concert in the early 1991 and long wanted to hear this music. They did a glorious version of Evans' late composition 'Laurie'. Could the DVD be from the concert you saw?

Thanks, John! I missed that thread. Looks like some real fine stuff! ubu I missed the thread, too! I have some of these on vinyl (the AEC's, the Shepp, the Paul Bley, the Lacy's), but haven't heard them for quite a while. [if only my wife hadn't broken my turntable.] Anyone heard the Roswell Rudd or the solo Braxton?
  6. Who'd want to live in a world that had nothing you could complain about?
  7. I remember when I could've bought a whole wall of Saturn LPs for cheap from 3rd Street Jazz in Philly. But I wasn't as interested in Sun Ra back then. I could kick myself. Oh well.
  8. Legit? Mmmm, yeah. What label is it on? I have doubts that its a legit release. (As far as I know, the Horo label owner hasn't licensed anything for reissue.)
  9. I long for the good old days when people walking down the street talking to themselves were schizophrenic. Now they're probably just talking to someone on a cell phone.
  10. The discography doesn't mention the producers. (It does list the other musicians, though.)
  11. Yes, you should. Carla could be mentioned in the quote discussion we were having. Lots of quotes on side two of European Tour - the side long "Spangled Banner Minor And Other Patriotic Songs". Of course hers are composed into the tune...
  12. I assume that you know that Mutable Music issued a CD of the Revolutionary Ensemble's 1975 recording, The Psyche, earlier this year?
  13. Invent a device that will turn off cell phones and I'll be a happy man!
  14. I think I saw her group on tour around the time of "Social Studies." When's the last time she toured in the U.S.? * sigh *
  15. Two tracks were issued on European Blue Note CD compilations! "I Wish I Knew" was released on "Misty Blue" (CD BN 5-21151-2) and "Until It's Time For You To Go" was released on "Deep Blue" (CD BN 5-21152-2). Other titles remain unreleased according to BN discog.
  16. Yeah, that's an excellent interview. There's a lot of what of what he says about musical practice that could be seen as metaphors on creativity. (I think I should give a copy to a friend of mine who's a painter/painting teacher.)
  17. Especially since Clapton had a massive booze problem! I suppose it wasn't a good idea for him to accept payment in cases of beer instead of in cash?
  18. I'm tempted to have the link go to the Miles box!

This is teh same lineup as on Live at Nefertiti, on Ayler, which I really enjoy. I'm glad to hear it is worth listening to. Have you heard the disc on Ayler and are you able to compare the two? No, I haven't heard the one on Ayler! Hopefully, someone will have listened to both in a bit...
  20. Sure it wasn't wood? Maybe a tarogato?

Speaking of Brotz, this one's excellent and out in only two days: Peter Brötzmann - Medicina (Atavistic 149) Oct 19 -- 2003 trio studio recording of Peter Brotzmann (alto & tenor saxes, tarogato, a-cl), Peter Friis Nielsen (el-bass), Peeter Uuskyla (drums); recorded in Sweden
  22. Congrats! I like the drummer quote. (I spent last night's listening time on "Dance with Death," mostly listening to Bily Higgins -- he seemed to have no lack for ideas on that one...!)
  23. ...and I'll throw out another vote for "Funk Dumpling."
