Oops, I'm on the wrong "vinyl" thread...

brownie, have you heard his latest solo record on Drimala? I am curious about it. I've heard the new Burton Greene and enjoyed it. I need to listen again before I can say much more. But, in other news, the Burton Greene Quartet, with Roy Campbell, Adam Lane and Lou Grassi, will be playing in Philadelphia at Slought on Friday, June 25th. I'm hoping I can get a night off and make the show..

MD202 #1892 & MD205 #1917 appeared on my porch this morning. I knew I shouldn't have been surfing the web on Memorial Day. I have a strange mixture of happiness, pride and guilt... I'm currently listening to a tasty Wynton Kelly solo on disc 1, track 2... -
I wouldn't call Frank Wess inactive. He's also played on the following CDs that have been released over the last twelve months: Flutology - First Date (Capri) Butch Miles - Straight on Till Morning (Nagel Heyer) Andy Bey - American Song (Savoy) Joan Stiles - Love Call (Zoho) Libby York - Sunday in New York (Blujazz) Sarah Partridge - Blame It On My Youth (Nagel Heyer) Grady Tate - All Love: Grady Tate Sings (441 Records) And he's only 82!!

Also, a bit jewish, isn't it? Great disc. I didn't notice a Jewish element, but maybe I missed it. What did you notice? Was it Ashkenazi or Sephardic style? On the other hand, there definitely seems to be a Jewish element in this recent reissue: Shelly Manne - Steps to the Desert: Modern Jazz Versions Of Favorite Jewish & Israeli Songs (Contemporary) May 11 -- with Shorty Rogers, Teddy Edwards, Victor Feldman, Al Viola, Monty Budwig -- recorded in 1962; originally called "My Son the Jazz Drummer" -- includes four previously unissued bonus tracks

Good question. I had a feeling that Marie's gets a lot of promo CDs. Her business is near Los Angeles, isn't it? -
The English name of the same name? huh? Errr, I meant to write "the English play of the same name."
-
Now playing: Larry Ochs/Joan Jeanrenaud/Miya Masaoka - Fly Fly Fly (Intakt 092) 2004 -- Larry Ochs: tenor and soprano saxophones / Jean Jeanrenaud: cello, sampling / Miya Masaoka: koto, electronics Twisted free jazz, avant garde, chamber music?

Yes, very nice! He performed the spiritual "Blessed Assurance" (which is on the above album) as his last piece at his March 26th solo performance in Philadelphia.

I used to unwind at the end of the work day to the Arista double LP...

Hmm, almost 14,000 CDs listed. Almost 3% of his feedbacks are negative or neutral. (And $3.95 shipping for first CD!) -
The tunes on "The Jaywalker" were composed for the English play of the same name.

I've been listening to pieces of some of the Elvin interviews on WKCR and am impressed by how warm and personable he seemed. (Heck, he said he enjoyed playing with Ginger Baker -- Elvin was expecting a showdown, but said that Baker provided a conversation.)
