  1. Got an email from CDUniverse over the weekend the my back-ordered Free America titles are in stock.
  2. Well, after you take the outer wrap off, you'll have no info on the front cover. I suppose that's OK in some circumstances - the artwork itself looks good, but it just doesn't work for me from a practical point of view...and wait til you get to the booklets! Here, tell me which titles are these by looking at the covers: Check the spines.
  3. Arrived this morning. On tap for later this afternoon...
  4. I've listed Go Jazz titles in the past, but not anything very recently. What's the name of the new Telesforo title?
  5. Just curious, what don't you like about Elling? (Or alternately, what do you like about him?)
  6. I find some details of the show on some site (phillyjazz.Jazzmatazz.info) -- Sun Ra Arkestra under the direction of Marshall Allen — featuring Sun Ra's arrangements of big band jazz stomps by Fletcher Henderson, Horace Henderson, Jelly Roll Morton, a.o. — will include the world premiere of two new stomps composed and arranged by Arkestra trumpeter Fred Adams — the Sedgwick youth jazz band will perform with the Arkestra on several pieces — Sedgwick Cultural Center, 7137 Germantown Ave, Philadelphia Apr 16 (Sat) — 8 pm — $15 advance / $22 door
  7. I know, that's what I am looking for. I haven't found any yet. Try Duke Ellington (but I must warn you that you may become an addict). I've heard that Duke has several releases available.
  8. Columbia is doing a "50th Anniversary of Miles's Signing" PR campaign, so I imagine they have incentive to get the set out this year. (Wouldn't be surprised if the date slips a bit, though.) I'm looking forward to finally hearing this set.
  9. WHAT??? Wasn't Benny Golson the best because you got to sit next to ME??? Err, I don't want to cause you any pain, but...
  10. I heard them perform last weekend at the Kimmel center in Philadelphia. I thought it was very good. Maybe you could characterize it more as jazz influenced chamber music, but I thought it was effective and gave life to Whitman's poetry. I know some don't like Elling, but I enjoyed his singing... I also have the Palmetto disc. I think it's stronger than the concert was...
  11. Another PKD movie? Too bad he didn't live another 20 years....
  12. I was there too & enjoyed the show. I was glad to hear the other pair of musicians come out. My ears needed something different by that time. Hey Chalupa -- are you going to see the Arkestra show at the Sedgwick next month (4/16)? They'll be doing all or mostly arrangements of "stomps," including ones by Fletcher Henderson. (Maybe that'll motivate me to read more of the new Fletcher Henderson bio, which is pretty good so far.) We seem to keep ending up at the same shows. Have we met?
  13. AEoC at Haverford.
  14. I've been working since 4am after four hours of sleep.

    Sonny Stitt

He set the way-back machine on reverse.
  16. LCJO has that rare ability to make interesting music sound boring.
  17. First CD issue coming on May 10th: Modern Jazz Quartet - Sheriff (Wounded Bird) May 10 — 1964 Atlantic Records release
  18. This sentence no verb.
  19. One of my favorite albums too! The reissue of the album (with the original non-Cat-ner cover ), is due out on April 12th.
  20. I'd just like to borrow it for the weekend. I'll definitely return the photos on Monday.
  21. Are there release dates listed for these?
  22. I haven't heard these either, but I think that Minasi was pretty unhappy about the production. Probably one of the reasons he didn't record anything else for many years.
  23. Please don't take offense but "nice" doesn't cut it. It's on the same wavelength as saying something is "pleasant". With so much music and such a finite amount of time, I won't buy unless I suspect the CD is really worth having. That's my understated way of saying (assuming you like Eric Alexander) that the CD is worth having. (It's hard for me to be too verbose on four hours sleep.)
  24. I just missed you -- I was at the early show. Nice show. Great to hear Rivers!
