Has anyone heard this Kowald CD? Opinions? I like it, but it's pretty abstract. Two long pieces with and without bow, using some extended techniques, etc.

And here's the info on where he's playing in the next weeks: Yes, the third member of Gebbia's trio is electric bassist Massimo Pupillo. They'll be in Philly next Monday, but I won't be able to make it, alas. Gianni Gebbia/Lukas Ligeti/Massimo Pupillo — Gianni Gebbia (alto sax), Massimo Pupillo (electric bass), Lukas Ligeti (drums) — Slought Foundation, 4017 Walnut Street, Philadelphia Apr 25 (Mon) — 8 pm — $12 ($10 students)
  11. Tchicai gave a fine show!
  12. Very good show, dismal attendance (fewer than a dozen people!). (Trying to figure out why, the venue's been getting 50-60 people for shows lately. Maybe people went to free jazz show across the street.) And yes, Lindberg has tremendous technique and swings as well. Hope he puts out another release as a leader soon. Some nice soloing from Malaby as well.
  13. A Beautiful Mind
  14. I concur!
  15. I don't have info about this year's festival, but you can look at the listing's for last year's fest on my website at http://jazzmatazz.home.att.net/phillyjazz/...lyconcerts.html. (Search for "clifford brown".) Looks like the week night concerts started around 6:30pm.

  19. Looks like the K2s & OJC issues are delayed until Summer. The purchase by Concord seems to be slowing down issues at Fantasy. I'm not too thrilled.
  20. mmmmmm ... *hic* ... mmmmmmm
  21. I'm a bit blue myself.
  22. At a few recent jazz shows, I've noticed an increase in the number of people in the audience with no grey hair... I've wondered what brought them there...
