  1. I know it's not the same, but Undiluted is available as a MP3 download at Amazon.
  2. Ok, I am now intrigued by this whole thing. As far as I can tell, the remastered Fantasy CD still has only 6 tracks. I can't tell from the description whether it still has the Mingus overdubs or not. The Jazz Factory claims to have removed overdubs and has 14 tracks. It came out around 2004. There is something called Jazz at Massey Hall from 101 Distribution with 15 tracks, which came out in 2007 (so maybe they ripped off Jazz Factory?). It also claims to have removed the overdubs. So I guess I am baffled as to where these PD labels could have come up with a way to get at the original tapes. What is the official release? And why can't I seem to find any "legit" release with more than 6 tracks?
  3. A sad situation -- one that reminds me of the US prior to the rise of the muckrakers in the late 1800s/early 1900s. Much of the food that city dwellers ate was adulterated and barely fit for consumption (read Upton Sinclair's The Jungle just for a taste). It really does call for a meaningful inspection regime (the market by itself does not sufficiently self-regulate itself), but it seems unlikely that China is really ready for that. Same thing with stronger environmental laws. Maybe in another 10-20 years...
  4. Congrats and best of luck. I have another CD with Joëlle Léandre and enjoyed it. I'd be interested in this, though it would help if there were short sound clips. Also, I didn't really feel like working through registration to figure out shipping costs. What will it be for shipping to the US, specifically Chicago? Thanks. Eric
  5. I really don't follow. If you want the Heat to lose, why wouldn't doing it in 5 (or even 4) be better?
  6. GREAT price! Yeah, thanks, Berigan. I broke down and ordered it at that price.
  7. Didn't actually watch that much of it, but I did catch Gibson's sick, sick dunk in the 4th. Then I watched the commentators (Barkley et al.) ask to see it over and over, which was pretty funny. I do love all the back-pedalling from those that said the Heat would sweep the Bulls. Actually Barkley was one of the few to say he favored the Bulls. Anything could happen (DRose gets injured and it is all over) but the Bulls definitely play better D and they are a far more complete team than the Heat, so they have a pretty good shot going forward. One thing that has been interesting is that I have been reading LeBron's thoughts on the series and the previous ones. I'm certainly not a fan of his, but he seems pretty sharp and clearly watches a lot of film. I wonder if he would make a good coach far down the road. He actually was correct about Bosh getting it going in game 1, but he surely didn't forsee that he and Wade would wilt against a team that played real D.
  8. Just finished Sermons and Soda-Water, which are three somewhat related novellas by John O'Hara (the narrator is the same in all three). I definitely liked this better than Appointment in Samarra, which I didn't find memorable at all. There are certainly some fine passages, and I think O'Hara is somewhat underrated (like John Fante in that respect). But at the same time, he seems totally sex-obsessed. You wouldn't think there was anything on these people's minds except "hooking up." Just started The Miraculous Day of Amalia Gomez by John Rechy. Interesting so far.
  9. I came pretty close to bidding on this: Kenton 10", since it is a great artifact, but decided that with another upcoming move I didn't need one more "thing" when I would always play the CD anyway. About half a day left to bid. (No relationship to the seller...)
  10. Inventory is starting to pile up, so I will reorganize the material already listed (probably in a separate thread) and it will be available for 2-3 weeks more before going off to Reckless, Dusty or JRM, unless you contact me first. Thanks for looking! 7 Donald Byrd Kofi (BN Rare Grooves) - sawcut in spine 5 Gillespie/Sandoval To a Finland Station (OJC) 8 Giants of Jazz in Berlin '71 (Gillespie/Stitt/Monk) (Emarcy - 1 CD version) - minor marks do not affect play 7 Wayne Shorter Schizophrenia (BN Conn) - some sticker residue on artwork 6 Jimmy Smith Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf (Verve - digipack) 10 Jimmy Smith la metamorphose des cloportes (Universal France - digipack) 10 Jimmy Smith Walk on the Wild Side - Best of Verve (2 CDs) 6 Lonnie Smith Think! (RVG edition) sawcut in spine 3 Lonnie Smith Turning Point (RVG - but UK Copy controlled version - never stopped me from listening but I agree it is a pain) 5 Pepper Adams/Donald Byrd Motor City Scene (Bethlehem) 6 Cal Tjader Soul Sauce (Verve) 15 Stan Tracey Under Milk Wood 15 Stan Tracey/Guy Barker Let Them Crevulate 20 Stan Tracey Quartet Return of Captain Adventure (2 CDs)
  11. Well, shoot. Watch it turns out this is original material (to JiP) and it is such a butt-ugly cover...
  12. I'm thinking that I was starting to do pretty well selling some stuff through Amazon, and now I'm pretty sure I'm in the early stages of getting scammed on one item. It was to a US address, but the billing address was to South Africa (ZA). (Didn't think Amazon was supposed to be set up to allow this to happen.) At least I sent it delivery confirmation, but that won't help if they argue the quality is poor and then try to get a refund. Well, never again. If this becomes a problem, and I am not simply over-reacting, then I will definitely cancel any future transaction coming out of Africa (in fact, this really ought to be an Amazon setting, allowing international buyers but giving you more control over which countries are eligible).
  13. Oh come on now, surely we can agree to disagree on the merits of hoarding such a huge pile of Ra -- and not even listening to it! Seems unethical to me, and I won't rest easy until we've discussed it for 3 or 4 pages!
  14. Yes, I did look at the time and ended up ordering Jazz Boom and passing on the rest.* So I will probably just get the Nathan Davis. I am in no position to order duplicates right now, even though some of these covers are tres chic. *I managed to get a different version of Les tricheurs and it's true I probably ended up missing a couple of tracks but I decided I could live with that...
  15. Very curious about these, particularly if they will have these covers (even inside the booklet) or will be more standardized. So there is not overlap with the existing series? Jazz sur Seine sure sounds familiar. Pretty sure that I already have the Blakey, though I would be up for the other 3 (and Jazz sur Seine if it doesn't duplicate anything I already have).
  16. Ok, a few more, mostly Ben Webster and Phil Woods this time 3 Cassandra Wilson Glamoured 5 Ben Webster See You at the Fair (Impulse) 6 Ben Webster and Associates (Verve) 6 Ben Webster/Sweets Edison Ben and Sweets (Columbia) 5 Ben Webster/Joe Zawinul Soulmates 8 Ben Webster Gone with the Wind (1201 Music 24-bit remastered version) hole through UPC in slipcover 15 Lee Wiley Complete 50s Studio Masters (Jazz Factory) 2 CDs - very minor marks on CD1 do not affect play 5 Phil Woods Song for Sisyphus 5 Phil Woods/Johnny Griffin The Rev and I (BN) HOLD 7 Phil Woods Musique du Bois (Muse seems to be the original CD version, definitely not the 32Music reissue)
  17. I generally have relocated for work-related reasons every 3-5 years. It doesn't phase me too much aside from the packing up the books and CDs. It's nice to think this might be the last time. Given my history, that's not too likely. Or what is almost as likely is that my wife and I might have to temporarily separate if her parents' health gets too bad in 5 or so years. Very hard to say at the moment.
  18. It's a nice one, that's for sure. I'm trying to part with these CDs before they become CDs I can't live without...
  19. I'm thinking I probably have one available -- and could check tonight -- if this is something you think you can't live without...
  20. I'm thinking that it looks very likely I am going to pick up and relocate again, this time to Vancouver. I am hoping that this time it sticks. I'm trying not to think about what will happen if it doesn't...
  21. It is also on his recent trio recording. It is on his second-most recent trio CD -- Historicity. But thanks for the head's up, since I went looking but didn't realize that Vijay has a brand new trio recording called Tirtha, which I plan on getting tonight.
  22. The Chicago Symphony is semi-flexible. They definitely push several fixed 5 and 10 concert packages (and these have the best discounts), but if you wait after the people ordering those are done, then there is a period you can make your own 5 and 10 concert series with a reasonable discount. I've done this a couple of times. They are also fairly reasonable about making changes with at least 24 hours notice (I think there is a $5 change fee).
  23. A few more from Randy Weston and others 5 Weston Earth Birth (Verve) 5 Weston Get Happy (OJC) 5 Weston Bershire Blues 7 Weston Mosaic Select Disc 2 only (Piano a la Mode and unreleased session with Cecil Payne) 4 Blue Moses (CTI) Japanese import (KICJ 8338) Japanese liner insert but no Obi. The CD has considerable scuffing but still plays fine* * Plays on some CD players but not all - I found some players skip on track 4 , so I have lowered the price accordingly. HOLD 6 Kenny Wheeler All the More (Soul Note) 6 Kenny Wheeler Gnu High (ECM) -- this is a German import, probably from 1994 -- not the 2008 reissue HOLD 10 Kenny Wheeler/John Dankworth Windmill Tilter HOLD 10 Black Renaissance Body, Mind and Spirit
  24. Well, I can see that, but I would say that the overwhelming number of 4 and 5 star reviews just strike me as puffery or from people who just luv all music and can't make distinctions. (Or as part of a concerted effort to inflate the CD's ratings...)
