I'm thinking I probably have one available -- and could check tonight -- if this is something you think you can't live without...
-
I'm thinking that it looks very likely I am going to pick up and relocate again, this time to Vancouver. I am hoping that this time it sticks. I'm trying not to think about what will happen if it doesn't...
-
It is also on his recent trio recording. It is on his second-most recent trio CD -- Historicity. But thanks for the head's up, since I went looking but didn't realize that Vijay has a brand new trio recording called Tirtha, which I plan on getting tonight.

The Chicago Symphony is semi-flexible. They definitely push several fixed 5 and 10 concert packages (and these have the best discounts), but if you wait after the people ordering those are done, then there is a period you can make your own 5 and 10 concert series with a reasonable discount. I've done this a couple of times. They are also fairly reasonable about making changes with at least 24 hours notice (I think there is a $5 change fee).

A few more from Randy Weston and others 5 Weston Earth Birth (Verve) 5 Weston Get Happy (OJC) 5 Weston Bershire Blues 7 Weston Mosaic Select Disc 2 only (Piano a la Mode and unreleased session with Cecil Payne) 4 Blue Moses (CTI) Japanese import (KICJ 8338) Japanese liner insert but no Obi. The CD has considerable scuffing but still plays fine* * Plays on some CD players but not all - I found some players skip on track 4 , so I have lowered the price accordingly. HOLD 6 Kenny Wheeler All the More (Soul Note) 6 Kenny Wheeler Gnu High (ECM) -- this is a German import, probably from 1994 -- not the 2008 reissue HOLD 10 Kenny Wheeler/John Dankworth Windmill Tilter HOLD 10 Black Renaissance Body, Mind and Spirit

Well, I can see that, but I would say that the overwhelming number of 4 and 5 star reviews just strike me as puffery or from people who just luv all music and can't make distinctions. (Or as part of a concerted effort to inflate the CD's ratings...)
-
While this is probably true for customer service interactions, I wonder about in the art/music/theatre world where you end up with people seemingly only speaking up for amazing arts and "not saying anything" if they cannot make a nice review. I am often astounded by the sheer number of 4 and 5 star reviews for fairly average CDs and books and I do quickly discount them (and do trust the negative reviews a bit more). (On the other hand, life is a bit short to sit around and give 85% of everything on Amazon a 3-star review. I usually only bother if it is something I hate or really love.) Same thing with the people chiming in about the standing ovations of a play on opening night (when the place is packed with friends and family). I tend to really only focus on the details in the reviews, information about the special features and how the video mastering looks and something even what is included in box sets (when Amazon has really fallen down on the details). This of course is largely undercut by Amazon's stupid insistence on bundling reviews across different editions (this is one thing I would change right away if I were emperor of Amazon).

I'll need to consolidate lists, as well as drop prices on some already listed material. Anyway, I am working backwards Y, W, T since that is easiest, and this is for sale today. As before, 3 or more CDs gets you free shipping in the US. CDs can gladly be combined with those on other lists. Thanks for looking! 8 Zoot Sims/Al Cohn/ Phil Woods Jazz Alive - Night at the Half Note (drill hole in case, minor marks on CD not affecting play) 7 Randy Weston Marrakech in the Cool of the Evening (Verve) minor marking on CD, does not affect play 5 Randy Weston Solo, Duo & Trio 8 Randy Weston (with Cecil Payne) Jazz a La Bohemia 10 Randy Weston Tanjah - promo stamp on art work, very minor markings on CD not affecting play 10 Jack Wilson Something Personal (BN 1996) 10 Reuben Wilson Love Bug (BN Rare Grooves) minor marks on CD not affecting play 8 Reuben Wilson Blue Mode (BN Rare Grooves) scratches on CD not affecting play, promo label on CD 10 Essential Jimi Henrix (OOP 2 CD collection from 1989) obviously there are a ton of compilations and box sets, but this one is particularly nice -- all killer, no filler as DG would say!

Lee Morgan's single-only Blue Note release

I realize it's not the same, but the Midnight Cowboy track can be found on the compilation Blue Movies, which is how I have it. -

The East is proceeding more or less according to the seedings, although the Celtics look older and rougher than expected. I think they'll make it interesting tonight but probably still lose in 5. Which is pretty much what I expect for the Hawks as well. While the Bulls could get past Miami, I have my doubts. I think perhaps next year is their year. Anyway, the West seems totally open. The Lakers are toast. I guess I'm leaning toward Dallas coming out of the WCF. They are much tougher, both mentally and physically, than in the past. Much of this is due to Tyson Chandler (an ex-Bull). I would actually be ok with Miami going to the Finals -- provided they lose to Dallas and Dirk gets his revenge... -
May not have included these recent CDs: $7 The Lost Cuban Trios Of Casa Marina (Cuban bordello music -- as discussed on a different thread) HOLD Teddy Charles Dances with Bulls

A few more CDs right now. These are all near mint condition (even have slipcases for the ECM, except for the Rarum one which is digipack), though the case is broken a bit for the Vandermark CD. Tomasz Stanko Suspended Night 7 Tomasz Stanko From the Green Hill 7 Tomasz Stanko Soul of Things 7 Tomasz Stanko Rarum (ECM) 7 $25 for all 4 CDs Vandermark 5 Simpatico $5 Thanks for looking. Eric

Anyone here use Magic Jack or Skype????
ejp626 replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I haven't dropped my land line, but I am using Skype more. It works best when your other party is also on Skype, otherwise you pay a per minute fee (and it takes forever to get money into your Skype account!). I think the quality is pretty good provided both parties have DSL. -
I just wrapped up Evening Clouds by Junzo Shono and Still Life, a collection of short stories by the same author. I found them fairly tedious to be honest. They are essentially plotless, and are really mostly observations of family life, based on the author's real family. Not recommended. I am starting another pass through my books to shed a lot of them, mostly working through non-fiction this time. In a few cases, I will read or at least skim them before parting with the books. One is A Hazardous Inquiry: The Rashomon Effect at Love Canal by Allan Mazur. It's pretty interesting, looking at the events surrounding Love Canal from six distinct perspectives. I had no idea it's become so rare, so I guess this one I'll actually try to sell rather than just donate. At any rate, I am nearly ready to start Mahfouz's Cairo Trilogy (finally). Looking forward to that, as well as feeling a bit daunted due to its length.

Meant to add these a long time ago, but I have been moving house. I vow this is the last time I move so many boxes of CDs! So I am in the mood to sell off most of my collection. This is the start. Mostly in the $4-5 range. As in the first post, 3 or more CDs are shipped free to US addresses. I've tried to take condition into account, but will check more closely at any expression of interest and notify you if there are marks or scratches on CDs and reduce price accordingly. Do ask if you care about spine cuts, holes punched through UPCs or promo labels, and I will double-check. I never really consider these things, since I did purchase all of them myself. I'll try to have more listed soon. Also, I apologize if my mailbox gets full. I will be emptying it tonight. Thanks! Well, then they won't -- and arguably they shouldn't. There is a lot of denial of reality going on in Detroit. It seems very evident that the current symphony is not sustainable in its current form.

Rational, logical, wise. It'll never pass. gregmo It's not that different from the old copyright regime in the US, but that wasn't good enough for our corporate overlords... Probably next change will be that work for hire will be 75 years after the death of the person/entity commissioning the work, not the creator.

Digression thread: Coherence is overrated
ejp626 replied to AllenLowe's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
On rare occasions I have bought such items, but I agree, being forced to return them is a bit beyond the pale. -
A number of these have been out on Membran. While I agree that is hardly a proper reissue, it might be enough to scare Mosaic away.

They see it through their spectrum/filters, we see it through ours. If it means that 1000s of recordings can never be released because a designer might be screwed out of a couple of bucks on his forgotten poster, so be it. I find it sad that there doesn't seem to be a way to set up a repository to compensate right holders (if they ever come forward, as unlikely as that is) and get the material out.

Wanted: Archie Shepp "For Losers" CD
ejp626 replied to peruser44's topic in Offering and Looking For...
I like how even though it is listed as a $50 CD, in the seller notes he says it is vinyl after all. -
Or maybe it will turn up as a bonus CD to the next remastering of Coltrane/Hartman. Wasn't the last CD on the Brownie box something like 3 songs at 12-15 minutes (total, not each)?
-
It looks like the LP and cassette versions of the Boddie exclusive are running low, but Reckless and Dusty Groove still have some of the CDs. Strangely enough, someone already put the CD version on eBay and got $40 for it while it is still available for about $15 at these other sites. Tempting I must say...

I guess I feel that if one did write a review, then one is entitled to a free copy. I've never reviewed CDs, but have reviewed about a dozen academic books over the years, nearly all of which involved getting a free copy. Now it may be a different story being sent a copy by the company in the hopes one writes a review and then no review materializes. (Not casting aspersions on anyone on this board, just saying it does happen. For that matter, I am super-overdue on one book review, and maybe I should just buckle down and wrap it up. ) There are reviewers who do so with the sole purpose of getting media for free. That being said, sales of jazz music are not affected (even in the least) by reviews. So why do record companies continue to comp these people? Never, ever in a million years has a good (or terrible) review affected sales? I've know I've made purchasing decisions on the basis of reviews, so it must have been my evil anti-twin buying or not buying the same CD to keep the universe in balance.
