I am trying to consolidate lists and ensure that the CDs I am listing have not already been sold. I am probably halfway there. I think the best way is to start over here with three lists that I will update periodically (ideally twice a week). The first list is the last chance list -- things on this list will only last another week before going to Reckless Records or Dusty Groove or in exceptional cases eBay. Nearly all will be $5 or less. The second list will be the interim list that will stick around 2-3 weeks before the items move to last chance. Finally I will have the new offerings list. I have tried to double check the condition of all CDs and indicate flaws or promo stickers/UPC holes etc., but I will probably make a few mistakes or overlook something. Contact me if unsatisfied and we can work something out. As before, I offer free shipping to the US (and $2 off to Canada or Europe) if 3 or more CDs are purchased. CDs will normally be shipped media rate, typically in cases within the US/Canada and not in cases overseas, unless you specify otherwise. Insurance or tracking can always be provided at cost. If the order reaches $100, I will provide both for free (if to the US). 5 or more CDs will result in 10% off savings, provided at least one CD is from the interim or new offerings list. I'll put the Last Chance list here and the other two in separate posts. I was somewhat flabbergasted to get a message from yourmusic trying to convince me to join Columbia House's DVD club. I can only imagine it will be going the same way as yourmusic in another few years...

The writer of the blog is from the UK, so he intentionally/ironically blanked it out to make a statement. I think this is clearly a case where UK law is so unbelievably stupid, it's hard to imagine anyone taking it seriously. Not only you can't report the details of a topic (like a normal injunction) but you can't even report that there is an injunction on the issue itself. Very Alice in Wonderland.

I'm thinking that one man's mead is another man's poison. Listening to Woody Shaw's Solid, deciding whether I should keep it or sell it off with everything else, and I listen to the last track (Woody Woodpecker song) which some reviewers on Amazon praised. I think it is silly and not a worthy end to the CD (so it becomes an easy decision to sell). It reminds me too much of playing The Flinstones theme in jazz band in H.S., and I wasn't a fan of that either...

I'm thinking that the slate of upcoming Criterion releases have far more than the normal number of retreads or movies generally available elsewhere. Now in some cases, this may be the first R1 release, but I have R2 releases of both Malle's Zazie dans le Metro and S. Ray's The Music Room, so I am very unlikely to purchase those (I might Netflix them eventually). But certainly good for some. There are two DVD that seem pretty "fresh" to me: People on Sunday and Ichikawa's The Makioka Sisters. Reasonably likely to buy the Ichikawa. Once again, I am finding that the Eclipse series is more interesting than the mainline Criterion series. This box looks fascinating: Eclipse Series 28: The Warped World of Koreyoshi Kurahara

Most of what I am thinking is unprintable (at least in a "family" forum). And we are "family," aren't we?

Really? My Amazon deliveries (and there are a lot of them) are almost always UPS. The items I order from private sellers often come via USPS, however. Hmmm - I think all my Amazon comes USPS, but I also make sure to always go for the free shipping.

Ok, I am now intrigued by this whole thing. As far as I can tell, the remastered Fantasy CD still has only 6 tracks. I can't tell from the description whether it still has the Mingus overdubs or not. The Jazz Factory claims to have removed overdubs and has 14 tracks. It came out around 2004. There is something called Jazz at Massey Hall from 101 Distribution with 15 tracks, which came out in 2007 (so maybe they ripped off Jazz Factory?). It also claims to have removed the overdubs. So I guess I am baffled as to where these PD labels could have come up with a way to get at the original tapes. What is the official release? And why can't I seem to find any "legit" release with more than 6 tracks? They wouldn't lie would they? Perhaps they added the Bud Powell Trio tracks from the same concert. Well, Amazon reviewers are not the sharpest crayons in the box, but I think even they would have noticed that 8 tracks didn't have any horns. It probably is from the Debut box. Anyway, perhaps back on track, I came across this Junior Mance two-fer from Fresh Sound: Mance 2-fer What's particularly intriguing is it is clearly still under copyright (recorded as late as 1973) and they claim (or at least strongly imply) that they had Mance's blessing to go ahead (I'm certainly unclear whether he could simply waive rights or not). Oh so intriguing. Anyway, it doesn't look essential, but still an interesting pairing.

Always been kind of interested in this set; maybe one day I will break down and get it.

I know it's not the same, but Undiluted is available as a MP3 download at Amazon.

A sad situation -- one that reminds me of the US prior to the rise of the muckrakers in the late 1800s/early 1900s. Much of the food that city dwellers ate was adulterated and barely fit for consumption (read Upton Sinclair's The Jungle just for a taste). It really does call for a meaningful inspection regime (the market by itself does not sufficiently self-regulate itself), but it seems unlikely that China is really ready for that. Same thing with stronger environmental laws. Maybe in another 10-20 years...

Joëlle Léandre / Phillip Greenlief - That Overt Desire of Object
ejp626 replied to Kreilly's topic in New Releases
Congrats and best of luck. I have another CD with Joëlle Léandre and enjoyed it. I'd be interested in this, though it would help if there were short sound clips. Also, I didn't really feel like working through registration to figure out shipping costs. What will it be for shipping to the US, specifically Chicago? Thanks. Eric -
Sports: 2009/10 NBA & NCAA Basketball Season

I really don't follow. If you want the Heat to lose, why wouldn't doing it in 5 (or even 4) be better? -
GREAT price! Yeah, thanks, Berigan. I broke down and ordered it at that price.

Didn't actually watch that much of it, but I did catch Gibson's sick, sick dunk in the 4th. Then I watched the commentators (Barkley et al.) ask to see it over and over, which was pretty funny. I do love all the back-pedalling from those that said the Heat would sweep the Bulls. Actually Barkley was one of the few to say he favored the Bulls. Anything could happen (DRose gets injured and it is all over) but the Bulls definitely play better D and they are a far more complete team than the Heat, so they have a pretty good shot going forward. One thing that has been interesting is that I have been reading LeBron's thoughts on the series and the previous ones. I'm certainly not a fan of his, but he seems pretty sharp and clearly watches a lot of film. I wonder if he would make a good coach far down the road. He actually was correct about Bosh getting it going in game 1, but he surely didn't forsee that he and Wade would wilt against a team that played real D. -
Just finished Sermons and Soda-Water, which are three somewhat related novellas by John O'Hara (the narrator is the same in all three). I definitely liked this better than Appointment in Samarra, which I didn't find memorable at all. There are certainly some fine passages, and I think O'Hara is somewhat underrated (like John Fante in that respect). But at the same time, he seems totally sex-obsessed. You wouldn't think there was anything on these people's minds except "hooking up." Just started The Miraculous Day of Amalia Gomez by John Rechy. Interesting so far.

I came pretty close to bidding on this: Kenton 10", since it is a great artifact, but decided that with another upcoming move I didn't need one more "thing" when I would always play the CD anyway. About half a day left to bid. (No relationship to the seller...)

Inventory is starting to pile up, so I will reorganize the material already listed (probably in a separate thread) and it will be available for 2-3 weeks more before going off to Reckless, Dusty or JRM, unless you contact me first. Thanks for looking! 7 Donald Byrd Kofi (BN Rare Grooves) - sawcut in spine 5 Gillespie/Sandoval To a Finland Station (OJC) 8 Giants of Jazz in Berlin '71 (Gillespie/Stitt/Monk) (Emarcy - 1 CD version) - minor marks do not affect play 7 Wayne Shorter Schizophrenia (BN Conn) - some sticker residue on artwork 6 Jimmy Smith Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf (Verve - digipack) 10 Jimmy Smith la metamorphose des cloportes (Universal France - digipack) 10 Jimmy Smith Walk on the Wild Side - Best of Verve (2 CDs) 6 Lonnie Smith Think! Well, shoot. Watch it turns out this is original material (to JiP) and it is such a butt-ugly cover...

I'm thinking that I was starting to do pretty well selling some stuff through Amazon, and now I'm pretty sure I'm in the early stages of getting scammed on one item. It was to a US address, but the billing address was to South Africa (ZA). (Didn't think Amazon was supposed to be set up to allow this to happen.) At least I sent it delivery confirmation, but that won't help if they argue the quality is poor and then try to get a refund. Well, never again. If this becomes a problem, and I am not simply over-reacting, then I will definitely cancel any future transaction coming out of Africa (in fact, this really ought to be an Amazon setting, allowing international buyers but giving you more control over which countries are eligible).

Oh come on now, surely we can agree to disagree on the merits of hoarding such a huge pile of Ra -- and not even listening to it! Seems unethical to me, and I won't rest easy until we've discussed it for 3 or 4 pages!

Yes, I did look at the time and ended up ordering Jazz Boom and passing on the rest.* So I will probably just get the Nathan Davis. I am in no position to order duplicates right now, even though some of these covers are tres chic. *I managed to get a different version of Les tricheurs and it's true I probably ended up missing a couple of tracks but I decided I could live with that...
-
Very curious about these, particularly if they will have these covers (even inside the booklet) or will be more standardized. So there is not overlap with the existing series? Jazz sur Seine sure sounds familiar. Pretty sure that I already have the Blakey, though I would be up for the other 3 (and Jazz sur Seine if it doesn't duplicate anything I already have).
