Here ya go: http://www.amazon.com/Impulse-50-First-Taylor-Collection/dp/B004VRIEYM/ref=sr_1_1_digr?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1303388384&sr=1-1 But look at the track timings of those last three tracks in the set! It looks like at the moment, you can buy some of the mp3s separately (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0042KZJ4Q?ie=UTF8&tag=vermusgro-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B0042KZJ4Q) and these last 3 are currently available as stand-alones, so that would be the route I would go (and I might download them but am not exactly chomping at the bit). Probably better to do this sooner than later in case they change it around.

Actually I'm not so sure they do know. Their business model is more or less collapsing. They do know what is comfortable and safe, but they've never really tried other options. There are actually a fair number of projects where they have already paid for remastering and everything, then just shelved it. Those seems like things they should use to test the download route.

Didn't even know what the majority of Record Store exclusives were. Didn't really interest me. I did get the Numero Uno exclusive compilation -- Pressed at Boddie. That was kind of cool. It will be interesting to see if they really did sell all of them (quite possibly) and, if not, will some turn up at Dusty Groove.

This looks to me to be a better overall set, but I still have far too much of it already to justify buying it.

Knicks should have won. I happen to think the offensive foul called against Melo at the end was total BS -- and it probably changed the outcome of that game too. However, I don't really care too much one way or the other. Just hope that this series runs long, as well as the Celtics (prob)-Heat match-up in the next round. Celtics look ancient. -

I was caught up in the middle of a move, or I would have filed in March (since I received a healthy return from the feds but then still owed for Illinois). I filed federal last Tues. and state last Friday. Nice to see almost no lines. Normally it's round the block on the 15th. I guess that will be the case on Monday! -

Obviously they have gotten a bit too loose and let the best record go to their heads. But also one of those guys on the Pacers was having a bit of a career night. Assuming he returns to earth, the Bulls should do a lot better in game 2 after making adjustments. But there is no question DRose has the will to win that we haven't seen since MJ and I think that will prevail. And how crushing for the Pacers... -
So I did manage to get to the pop-up store. It was a crate-diggers dream, and obviously the word had already gotten out, since it was packed by 9:30. I really didn't have much time, since I had bought something at a nearby Walgreens and only had about 30 minutes grace for using their lot (yes, I had planned on taking the bus to avoid such issues, but was running really late). I ended up not going through the crates at all and just got the Numero Uno special record-store day only CD plus the mystery 45. Fortunately, they had a cash only line, which helped. Then on to Dusty Groove. Even though the numbers of people there were much fewer, it felt so much harder to navigate. I picked up one African compilation I had my eye on and a Buddy Collette's Jazz Loves Paris. Then I took some of the free popcorn and a free Daptones sampler. Not a bad day, but one where I just couldn't browse at all.

Is that the same Numero Uno that releases those great blues and soul compilations? That 'Light On The South Side' comp was fabulous. Yes. They have some great compilations. I really hope I can make it. It sounds pretty cool. More details here about record day in Chicago: http://music.newcity.com/2011/04/13/record-store-day-2011-in-chicago-events-and-releases-guide/

Great link, particularly enjoyed the mention of Girls On Heroin, yeah. Yeah, very nice. And record store day is fast approaching. I'm not sure I'll really be able to get out, since I am cleaning up from a recent move, but if things go well, I'll try to hit Dusty Groove and then there is a pop-up store (one day only) on Milwaukee Ave. run by Numero Uno.

Doc Brown receives depressing news...
ejp626 replied to Jazzmoose's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
If we can live in a world where an all-powerful deity intervenes to direct the fortunes of sports franchises, we certainly can also live in a world in which time travel is possible. The first time I saw the topic, I read it as Doc Rivers, and I can certainly believe that someone coming back from the future would have depressing news for him about the upcoming playoffs. -

Yeah that was pretty weird all right. When they decided to play the car, I wondered if the director of this Art of Noise video had been aware of this: -
What live music are you going to see tonight?

Playing on seeing Joe Lovano at the Jazz Showcase on Sunday, though honestly I may be too wiped out by moving tomorrow. And there may still be too much left to unpack. We'll see. -

I think I read that if Celtics and Heat stay at #2 and #3, they actually face each other to get into the Conf. Finals. I could live with that. Honestly, I'd rather face Celtics than Heat over 7 games. Of all the match-ups, I think Bulls would do worst against the Magic, though oddly enough Omar Asik did an amazing job keeping Dwight Howard off balance, while Noah was pretty useless. Lighting might not strike twice though, esp. over 7 games. It's close either way, but I'd rather face the Heat in the conference finals. A team needs depth to succeed in the postseason, and the Heat ain't got that (the Bulls, however, got it in spades). Also, the Heat are weak with their big men. Boozer, Noah, Asik, Gibson, and even good ol' Kurt Thomas should have a field day with the Heat's lineup. Not to mention, aren't the Bulls three and oh against the Heat this season, whereas I think the Bulls can only salvage a season split against the Celtics if they win on Thursday. Of course, that's assuming a lot way too early. While I think the Bulls pretty much have the top seed wrapped up, there's actual games that gotta be played. Indiana is showing evidence of a strong finish to their season and Orlando can't be overlooked. The Bulls are going to have to work big time to get to the conference finals. Sure is fun watching them, though. Didn't expect this season to unfold like it did. I realize that one game does not say that much about playoff outcomes, but the Bulls spanked the Celtics (and really got in their heads). In general, I think the Celtics have been moving in the wrong direction since "the trade," and I would still rather face them than the Heat in the Eastern Conf. Finals. But in terms of the second round, that will probably be against the Magic, and that could be a really tough match up. We'll see. -
I like Effinger a lot, especially his trilogy When Gravity Fails/A Fire in the Sun/The Exile Kiss. They've slowly been putting a lot of his short stories back in print in various collections, but they almost never show up used (and/or cheap), but they should be at larger libraries (or could be requested through ILL).

I do have vol. 6 as well of the Fats Waller Complete Recorded Works as well, so I could make a very nice offer for all six sets, although I would be willing to sell the sets individually. I also am selling Bill Evans Turn Out the Stars for $25. This is a version with six digipack CDs in a very thin cardboard box. The outer box is fairly bent/beat up. The CDs themselves are in very good condition. $20 Django on the Radio (JSP) all in good condition. $40 Errol Garner box 6 CDs on Telarc more details here: http://www.amazon.com/Night-Movies-Up-Errolls-Room/dp/B000035X5H/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1302260420&sr=1-2 $45 Sly and the Family Stone Collection (remastered) 7 CDs This also comes with the bonus DVD (which is scratched up a bit) if you want it As far as other non-jazz, I have many CDs by Pizzicato Five I will be selling, but I'll only list them if there is real interest. PM me. Thanks for looking. More soon! Eric

I've dropped the price of the Dexter Gordon Select to $55. HOLD I also have the Woody Herman Select for $35. The Art Pepper Vanguard set (9 CDs) for $50 SOLD Dexter Gordon Complete Trio/Quartet Studio recordings (Steeplechase) $80 classical box sets 30 Bernstein Mahler: Complete Symphonies 12 CD box set 8 Berstein Haydn: Paris Symphonies 2 CDs 20 Bernstein Haydn: London Symphonies 5 CDs I have been meaning to list for quite a while, but I am really limited in what I can post from work (and I have been spending evenings packing). Please send a PM (and a follow-up post wouldn't hurt), but don't be surprised if I can't respond until evening. It does look like I will be moving in another six months after this upcoming move (long story), and I am pretty much sick of moving CDs, so I plan to sell off the majority of my collection. You'll be the first to know. I'll see how much more I can list by Sunday. Thanks for looking. BTW, I have the first 5 of the JSP Fats Waller boxes (and actually I probably have #6, but I have to go look). I love 'em, but they take up so much space! I'd be willing to send them on to a good home, though I have a slight preference for selling as a set. I also could make a deal on the Albert Ayler Holy Ghost set (in near mint condition), though I see there are a fair number floating around. I actually thought I might donate it to a library (that promised to put it in their collection!), but both the Chicago Public Library and the Northwestern libraries have copies. Far out! Eric

I don't think the entire line-up has been released, but it seems they have their opener: Sept. 1: "Spiritual Source: Randy Weston and the Chicago Jazz Ensemble featuring the arrangements of Melba Liston. This would be incredible -- and it looks like it will be moved over to Millennium Park where the sound is so much better. I've never seen Weston -- just missed him a couple of times -- so this will be a special treat. Quite possibly this will be my last Chicago Jazz Fest (looks like I will be moving westward in late Sept/early Oct.), so I'm glad it's looking like a strong one (after one last year that left me kinda cold). Not related to the Fest, but still a really promising event is Von Freeman playing at Millennium Park on July 28 as part of this event -- "Truth Be Told: Celebrating the Legacy of Von Freeman." Saxophonist Steve Coleman and others will celebrate the great Vonski.

I have to say it's been a pretty wild ride watching the Bulls in Chicago. I don't think anyone would have expected 55+ wins this season. From just hoping they made it past the first round in the playoffs to thinking they have a legitimate shot of getting out of the East. Wow. Now if Boston hadn't made that stupid trade, I would probably go with the Celtics, but they are not going to be able to pull it together with Shaq and whatever other rent-a-center they have. The Heat are a legitimate threat for sure, though they still are not much of a team, and often lost to teams with really good defense. So I guess we'll see pretty soon. -
Well, this is a movie that I think they probably should make, though I would never see it. Here in Chicago, the last of the Cabrini-Green complex has just come down, and Target has expressed interest in building on the site (no joke). It would be very appropriate if they did Candyman 3 set in the Target store built on the site.

I wrapped up Shamsie's Burnt Shadows -- very powerful but somewhat depressing novel. I was expecting a different (happier?) ending. The Lamplighter - Anthony O'Neill My wife has been getting rid of some airport books in preparation for our upcoming move, and I've been dropping them off in the donation pile at the library. I decided to read this one, since it had a bit of a different vibe. It's set in Edinburgh in the early part of the 20th C. around the time when electricity was still just a fad and streets were still lit by gas light. This aspect was kind of squandered. Anyway, I hated, hated, hated this book. It is a total cheat on every level. The plot, such as it is, insists that you take supernatural beings seriously. I guess this is ok if that's what you know you are getting from the start, but to insert this into the middle of a police procedural seems very wrong to me. But mostly it wasn't the least bit frightening or eerie. I just can't believe it such good blurbs from reviewers and such a high number of 4 and 5 star reviews on Amazon. I will be returning to Lolita and wrapping that up, then will be working through my own stack of books that I intend to read once, then give away.

Wow -- that's out in the sticks. I'll see if I can make it though. Eric Really??? Google Maps says it 14 minutes from Lincoln Park - 6.8 miles. Neighborhood is Portage Park. Is that the sticks? Well, as far as music-going, it's pretty far out -- anything West of Western is kind of in the sticks. I also think of everything in terms of CTA time, and it is probably 35-40 minutes, assuming I don't just miss a bus.

Oh, Moose, don't go there. Just Stop It, ok? By the way, he actually is starting up a tour and is coming through Chicago soon. Don't know what the other stops are.
