  1. wow, Jim, that looks great! Traveling to Philly any time soon? I could use some assistance in the "tile" department!
  2. Fabulous news! When's the barbeque? I'll be there... Ready for some Florida weather about now!!! Congrats!
  3. Happy birthday!
  4. Glad to hear everthing's cool, Bill--stay in touch!
  5. Of course! It's different from the rest, to be sure; it's a sort of concept album, including strings and, I think, vocals. But don't let that put you off--it's still got a pretty tight groove overall, and clearly has the Gene Harris influence. Allmusic doesn't like it that much (calls the vocal arrangements "bizarrely schlocky"), but I say go for it. I predict Dan will weigh in in about...four minutes!
  6. Happy Birthday, Dex!
  7. Therein lies the reason why I have zero mosaics. That and the fact that I replace CD's with wax. So I'm backwards compatible!!!
  8. I'll try to post a link to a d/l site later tonight.
  9. Interesting remix of Jay-Z's Black Album that was put together by someone called "DJ Dangermouse." I don't love Jay-Z, and I'm not a huge fan of the Beatles, but I'm listening to this underground release, a melding of the White Album and the Black Album, and finding it strangely...captivating. This "release" (indy) created quite a stir when EMI tried to pull the plug on unauthorized use of Beatles samples. Jay-Z's camp responded by making an acapella mix of the Black Album available to any and all who would remix it! (when will the big companies learn? This is reminiscent of Biz Markie's sampling woes...). Anyway, although only 3000 copies were pressed by the DJ, it's all over the net (yesterday was Grey Tuesday, an event sponsored by the DJ whereby many fans hosted mp3's of the songs for download). Who's heard about this, or heard it? Whaddya think? Yahoo news link
  10. Yup...although it's not my favorite Lou title, I'm actually unloading the CD because I found a vinyl copy! I'm still a wax freak at heart...as I find vinyl copies, I either sell or bring the CDs to work. Lush Life wasn't a good work CD for me (my ideal work CD is Soul Station), so away it goes!
  11. Yes please, more hints!

  14. They got me last night for a coupl'a tasty slabs o' original wax: Bennie Green "Soul Stirrin'" and Ike Quebec "Soul Samba". Bastards!
  15. I'm not just saying this because of our host and other board members, but... I buy used whenever I can, except new releases which I must have (and are frequently marked down or can be preordered). Except... When I can buy a CD directly from an artist; or when I can buy an independent release directly from the label. Then, I will do so, and am picky about not buying such things used. But... If an artist refers me to Amazon or Tower, I will look for the CD used. Unless... The artist refers me to an independent seller (CD Baby, for example), in which case I will buy from the independent seller! WHEW! Super-conditional, but it works for me!
