I was supposed to visit Victor on my one business trip to the Copenhagen area, but we never managed to arrange it. I remember sending him a few "needle drop" CD-Rs of LPs he hadn't heard in many years. He was a Nick Brignola fan, so he really appreciated the needle drops of "Baritone Madness" & "Burn Brigade" that I sent him before Mosaic got around to releasing the Bee Hive label on CD.

I've seen Donelian several times in Boston but it's been many years since the last time.

Great band, even without Eddie & the two Billy's. Jeremy Pelt is a fine trumpeter.

It's worse than the audio of Pete La Roca's "Turkish Women At The Bath"? That's hard to do.

My first recollections of the Polydor label was when I bought German imports of LPs by rock artists like The Who & Jimi Hendrix & those were actually on Track first, so Polydor wasn't the actual label. The first artist I remember buying of an artist signed by Polydor was Pat Travers.

This was posted on Victor's Facebook page: Dear all, I am saddened to inform you that my dear father, Victor, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2025, at the age of 89. Victor’s memorial service will take place on June 7, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Sundby Cemetery Chapel. Afterwards, a memorial gathering will be held at Café Ælsk, Amagerbrogade 37, 2300 Copenhagen S. Everyone who knew and cared for Victor is welcome. Victor & I chatted via PMs and E-mails over the years. We exchanged CDs a few times. Like me, he was a huge Mobley fan. I haven't heard from him in a long while but I checked his Facebook page from time to time. His son posted a picture on Victor's 89th birthday in May.

Jacob Wendt - Silver Street (Hayden Records). A quintet that plays in the Jazz Messengers style... very literally in that style. Good if you like that. I do.

I can see both sides of this. I skim these "New Releases" posts because they are mainly marketing blurbs which, in my experience, do nothing to convince me to listen/buy the record. I usually look at the personnel and maybe if a skim of the blurb mentions an aspect of the record that gets me to read it in its entirety.

Depending on what they do on stage, it may bring about a new definition of "flash mob".

Charlie Rouse & Paul Quinichette - The Chase Is On (Bethlehem/Charly). I have this material on a lousy-sounding & terrible-looking two-fer from Charly that combined this session with Stitt/Holloway's Catalyst record, "Forecast: Sonny & Red"

Billy Mitchell - The Colossus of Detroit (Xanadu). I'm playing this from a needle-drop CD-R that I made from my old LP. Not the best audio to begin with so I don't know that I'd ever upgrade if a legit CD came out.

Billy Harper - Soran-Bushi B.H. (Denon)

In my car, I've been playing the contents of Coltrane's "The Complete Prestige" box set and when I got to the sessions with Paul Quinichette, I said to myself, "Man, this guy has such a unique sound", forgetting that his nickname was "Vice Prez" because he sounded so much like Lester Young. I haven't spun any 1950's Lester in a long time so I was thinking maybe I'd forgotten how he sounded so... Now playing: Next up will be "Lester Young With The Oscar Peterson Trio". BTW - the other thing I've gotten out of giving this massive Coltrane box set a full listen is that I really don't like Ray Draper's tuba solos at all.

Let's be real here - obis are strictly so that a Japanese record buyer can store records on a shelf and have the titles on the spines in Japanese. There was no "mythic" reason for them.

Almost sad to watch though... I guess it happens to all of us.

Weird seeing a thread started by Soulstation1 (Jeff). We haven't heard from him since he got Covid years ago. I wonder if he's still with us?

Does the discogs seller have a good sales history? There are still scammers out there. I had a discogs seller take my money and never ship the discs. I had to go through discogs and PayPal to get my money back. Just the other day, I found a very affordable copy of a CD I've been looking for and the seller's feedback was terrible so I didn't pull the trigger.

Interesting to me is how many of these countries have socialized medicine. So many people forego potential life saving procedures because they can't afford them & that has to factor in here.

The Tubby Hates was pretty phenomenal. The LP-only box of the Rendell-Carr material was pretty good too.

I know it's still a little while before the show, but I bought tickets to take my two daughters to see pianist Alex Minasian at Jimmy's in Portsmouth on July 17th. He's bringing in a quintet featuring Craig Handy & Bill Pierce on saxophones, Vince Dupont on bass and Aaron Seeber on drums. Seeber is the only one I haven't seen play live before. There were still plenty of good seats available and unlike many of the shows at Jimmy's these tickets are fairly affordable. Not cheap at $47, but not like some of their prices. Plus, you can always buy a cheap seat at the bar if you don't need to be in the main listening area. Some of those seats can actually see the stage. The problem with these stats on discogs is that even if that $125 sale was a partial box, it goes in as a "sale". I'm pretty sure this is what depressed the value of the Buck Clayton Mosaic box. Quite a few partial sets sold over a long period, which not only drove down the Low price but also the Median. Pretty soon, that box that used to regularly sell for over $300 now sells for under $100. Discogs has it's pluses & minuses.

I think only Jim A can do it. I looked into it a while back and i don't have much more ability than Jim S. I can add new members but that's about it.
