Jim, WTF... what the hell has Rosie O'Donnell done that makes you feel she needs to share a room with a pedophile and a serial rapist? Really?

What exactly is an Aural Exciter artifact?
Kevin Bresnahan replied to CJ Shearn's topic in Audio Talk
Jim - thanks for validating my decision to skip a career as a recording engineer. I couldn't do this for a living. I'd never be happy with this many buttons to play with. There would always be some part that would need that last little tweek. -
Over a year later, I took the plunge this weekend and got on the Harry's program. $15 every two months, free razor and shipping. It's less than $2 a blade so the price is much better, and lately Publix has been out of stock on those suckers anyway almost every time I need to hold my nose and buy more. Down to my last one though so the economy shipping better get the new ones here fast. I tried Harry's razors. I didn't like them. Two reasons: 1) I was not able to get as close as I could with my Gillette Sensor razor, especially around my nose and 2) The damn thing rusted after two shaves! So if you do try Harry's, make sure to blow dry the blade after you're done. I did that after the first shave, because I had read about their propensity to rust, but forgot after the second shave. I doubt that shaving with a rusted blade would be a fun time. I gave the kit (with the two remaining blades) to a friend at work to see if he likes them better. I warned him about the rust problem. I haven't heard back from him if he's liking it yet.

"Unissued since original release, this unique jazz masterpiece now returns to the limelight". Spouse. She's been his assistant for many years.

Perhaps not the worst out there, but, I'm sorry to say, mostly among the worst out there. You don't need graphs or waveforms. I've never heard a vintage RVG Blue Note LP, and have my doubts over such samples. But put on any Yoshida mastered XRCD24 from Audio Wave followed by the corresponding RVG CD. That will show you the discrepancy between the beauty of what Rudy originally recorded and what he put out as 24bit remastered CD. But if you compare an XRCD24 disc to it's TOCJ counterpart, you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference. They are nearly identical. Very interesting. So, as an hypothetical example, theSpanish blue cover version of Horace's "Further Explorations" I have, which is just the TOCJ repackaged, if that title was on XRCD24 or planned to be, there'd be very little difference, Kevin? That's been my experience. You'll have to compare yourself and see if you agree.

In the case of Mode/V.S.O.P., it's most definitely the label. They have decided to use this manufacturing model moving forward. As a result, I've decided that I won't support that business model moving forward.

What vinyl are you spinning right now??

Dolo Coker - Dolo! (Xanadu). Killer lineup. Coker with Blue Mitchell and Harold Land in the front line. It's interesting to hear Frank Butler again after reading Jimmy Cobb's interview where he talks about telling Miles that Frank was the best drummer in CA. -

George Coleman - Ronnie Scott's Presents George Coleman 'Live' (Pye). I've always wanted to get this on vinyl after reading the Penguin's comment on it and I finally found a beautiful mint copy at Stereo Jack's last week. -

Art Farmer - You Make Me Smile (Soul Note). With Clifford Jordan. This is not as good as I thought it would be when I bought it, but I really can't put my finger on any reason why. Too tame maybe? -
Ordered it. My first Mosaic pre-order. I had to do it as this has some of my favorite music that hasn't made it to CD. It will be nice get official digital versions. Some of my needle-drops are only so-so.

That does look interesting. It is. I don't think it's ever been on CD. Someone should try to get it out there. -

The Paul Guerrero Quintet featuring Marchel Ivery & James Clay - Texas Tenors (Jazz Mark Records/Craig Recording). Nice date. Never heard of the rhythm section but those two tenor players' names certainly caught my attention. -
If it's my estate sale, why would I care?

I just ordered 2,000 of the Bags Unlimited sleeves. I have run out of room and my wife and I are thinking of downsizing soon. These look like the best option.

My library doesn't use jewel cases any more. They switch all of their CDs into a plastic clamshell type case. I imagine they chuck the original jewel cases.

Jazz Loft may be gone, but the owner of the website kept the business going for their sleeves: http://www.spacesavingsleeves.com

I agree. I had no idea he was still alive. I hope his last years were comfortable. I've only seen a few 97 year old men whose life is still good at that age. RIP Mr. Rumsey - you made some great music and ran one of the best Jazz clubs in the world. Quite a legacy.

Wardell Gray - Memorial Album (Presitige) - 2 LP set. RVG in the deadwax on all four sides. This is a really nice batch of recordings. I never really listened to this stuff in the past, so it's all a first time for me. -
The problem I had with the record I bought was that it was ~$25 for a Liberty-pressed Blue Note of a Jimmy Smith date. At that price point with their VG grade, I expected better. Now that I know what "VG" really means to them, I will avoid buying those records.
-
I once bought a VG record from them and it had a very long and visible scratch across one whole side that resulted in audible clicks throughout the playback. When I asked them about it, they gave me the old "Goldmine grading system says that's VG" line. Well that being the case, I will no longer buy anything VG from them again. Stick to VG++ and NM.

What live music are you going to see tonight?
Kevin Bresnahan replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Tonight at Jocko's Jazz in Methuen, MA is Harry Allen with Ken Peplowski. I'm really looking forward to this one. I've seen them go toe to toe in the past and it was a blast. Next Tuesday, Phil Grenadier is playing there so that'll be two weeks in a row that are "can't miss". Kevin -
Your sleeves won't protect the records as they're on their way to your house. I hope they changed the packaging and used inners. It's pretty dumb to ship records without an inner liner.
