  1. Scott tells me that this set may have sold out over night via Internet orders so your order may not get in. However, if you did miss out, he does have a partial of discs 1-3 ($48) with box & booklet. Later, Kevin
  2. Now it looks exactly like Jazz Corner's Speakeasy! Now, when I switch sites, I'll have to look at the header to tell which one I'm on. Kevin
  3. The person over on Jazz Corner's Speakeasy now using the handle "Chaz Lounge" used to go by "Bright Moments" for years... I believe it was his handle on the old Jazz Central Station board. I may confuse Evan with this person every now & then. It's tough to get old. Later, Kevin
  4. They're in Walmart! Now I can get 'em cheap. I picked up a bag of the peanut version yesterday but I was way over my recommended daily allowance for chocolate so I haven't opened it yet. M&M's and port wine go together like Abbot & Costello. Later, Kevin
  5. Yes, they do! What to do? I may go back to my store and buy about 10 bags of each and stash them in the cupboard.... These are good and it won't take long before the chocoholics like myself realize this. They will sell out of these in no time. BTW, "ogre-sized" to M&M/Mars means about 1/3 bigger but oh, that extra 1/3 is all chocolate. Kevin
  6. Oh man!! Are these things heaven! To promote "Shrek2", M&M's has come out with over-sized M&M's. They call them "ogre-sized". Sooo much chocolate. I haven't had M&M's this good in 41 years. My mouth is watering just thinking about more. I have to get more. I may have to buy out the whole store. Anyone on a diet who's a chocolate freak must avoid these things at all cost! Must resist... can't reach for the bag... no... no... I'll balloon up to whale proportions... ahhhh!! Murmph... smack... mmphf Kevin
  7. Oooo, I did leave that there, didn't I? I wonder if the transfer engineer would rather I take this down? Since you caught it, Weizen, what do you think? Should I take it down? BTW, I have this as a Power Point file if anyone's interested. It cuts up nicely and fits like a charm. Funny thing is, I was just putting the finishing touches on a "Dance With Death" cover before this announcement. Later, Kevin
  8. FYI, this might be another Internet rumor just like Joe Henderson. Joe was reported dead on the 'net almost 2 years before the actual event. It was pretty bad then, and it would be pretty bad now if we let it. The rec.music.bluenote newsgroup started talking about this rumor yesterday and here it is a day later and no official word? Not looking good. I say let's wait for the official confirmation before starting an "RIP Elvin Jones" thread. Later, Kevin
  9. My "Take Aim" came out like this:
  10. Weizen, I've done a very nice cover to "Take Aim". I think it came out nice. I used this picture of Land from a web site: I tinted it green and used a yellow font for Land's name. It looks OK but I bet couw could do a better job. I have it at home on the PC. I'll post it tonight. BTW, this picture looks like it came from the photo shoot for Land's "Harold In The Land of Jazz": Later, Kevin
  11. Either way, I still think it's a sucky title! I re-did this artwork and called it "Quintet". I suppose "Den Tex" has possibilities... hey, couw, how about doing one off od the song titles? Later, Kevin
  12. Sure Weizen, you dumped my artwork quick enough! Can you send me a copy of the red version big enough to fit in Power Point layout? BTW, here is the version I did with "In A Capricorian Way": Kevin
  13. I don't know if I agree with the predictable aspect of this... I had been told that Hill doesn't like "Dance With Death" and asked that it didn't get reissued. I was pretty surprised when I saw this on the list. As for the cover art, they will be designing one for "Dance With Death". I guess BN would only budget artwork development for one title so the Ervin got the axe. BTW, the other reason they chose to axe the Ervin over the Hill would be that (sadly) Booker doesn't sell well at all. Apparently never has and still doesn't. I never understood this. I love his stuff. Also, if they do reissue that Ervin date, I would really doubt it would be titled "Back From the Gig". That was Horace Parlan's date and just happened to be combined as a two-fer on LP with this Ervin session. I'm betting it'll be called "Quintet". The song titles kinda suck as LP titles. I once created artwork for my CD-R and called it "In A Capricorian Way" as a joke. Later, Kevin
  14. The Booker Ervin was swapped out and replaced with Wilson's "Easterly Winds" because of the production costs associated with new artwork. I guess it adds about $2K for new artwork so the Ervin got shelved. Maybe next batch. BTW, I forwarded: to Michael and we had a great fucking laugh at that! What a great cover. He's forwarding it to Patrick Roques. Maybe Patrick will use it... BTW II, I mentioned the animated gifs (again) to Michael and he told me that he actually had them E-mailed to him by Dexter Gordon's widow. Watch out what you guys say about LTD... his widow may be watching... like anyone here would have a bad thing to say about Dex! Later, Kevin
  15. Horace Silver – The United States Of Mind 2 CD - all three albums Andrew Hill – Dance With Death - includes alt of title track Jack Wilson – Easterly Winds Larry Young – Of Love and Peace Sam Rivers – Contours - includes alt of Mellifluous Cacophony Bobby Hutcherson – Now! - Includes Hutcherson's set from "Blue Note Meets The LA Philharmonic" which includes different versions of three of the tunes from NOW
  16. Nah, they need those special "Clockwork Orange eye clamps" ... and listen to it while watching some disturbing movie scenes. Later, Kevin
  17. A quick question related to this discussion: Isn't it true that most of the EU PD recordings we are discussing here are technically illegal to export to the US? I would think that exporting any of these European PD sets to the US, where they are still held under copyright, is some kind of violation. Not that I think anyone could enforce this. Kevin
  18. You cannot use an external DAC for either SACD or DVD-Audio so there is little reason to go this route. The only way I know of to use an "external" DAC for these high rez formats is with Pioneer Elite's line. Their high-end home theater receivers mate with the high-end combi players using i-Link. Why we should believe that the DACs in a receiver are better than the ones in the player is beyond me. BTW, is it me, or did DrJ's last post in this thread get deleted?? I could swear I read that he had decided to go with an external DAC after A/B'ing a rig in his local shop. Didn't I read that? Maybe it was in his other audio thread... I'll go check. Later, Kevin
  19. If you buy the HTS-760 package, the receiver has 2 digital audio inputs but it also has separate 5.1 analog inputs (that will go unused at this time) that are a requirement for both DVD-Audio and SACD players. These 2 high rez standards disable the coax and optical digital outputs during playback. If you don't have these inputs, you won't be able to play the multi-channel audio. Of course, you could still play back analog stereo using standard analog connectors but I figure you might want to take advantage of multi-channel. If you buy an SACD or DVD-Audio player in the future and you have the HTS-760, you could use those 5 analog inputs and get high rez multi-channel playback out of the HTS-760. BTW, the Pioneer 563A goes for about $150 at Best Buy. It plays DVD, CD, multi-channel SACD and DVD-Audio, mp3, CD-R, CD-RW, jpeg pictures, DVD+R, DVD-R and DVD-RAM. Everything under the sun for $150. Later, Kevin
  20. I would think that given your buying history with Mosaic, you should call and explain the monetary situation and ask them to hold you a set until Tuesday. Knowing Mosaic the way I do, I would not be surprised if they did that for repeat customers. It's worth a shot. Later, Kevin
  21. Scott told me yesterday that they had about 25 of each "last chance" set and that he figured maybe a week more before they're gone. Just remember the last time a set got this close: the Ventura/Philips had some multi-set orders near the very end that wiped them out in minutes. After all, it only takes one person ordering 10 sets on ebay speculation to speed up the clock. Later, Kevin
  22. Is this discussion about the Onkyo home theater system you are looking at? If so, many of the posters seem impressed with the "bang for the buck". It sounds like if you can, spend the extra dough and get the HTS-760 because it has 5.1 analog inputs... you never know, you may decide to go multi-channel high rez (SACD & DVD-A) audio. Later, Kevin
  23. Boy, I'm really off on a tangent on this one... I was at the John Coltrane Memorial Concert the night Miles died. I went in knowing he was gone and I was hoping for a lift from the musicians. I was in a bit of a funk. From the reaction of the audience when they announced it from the stage, it was clear that most had not heard the news. It was a very emotional concert that night. Later, Kevin
  24. I wasn't into asking for autographs back when I saw Jimmy at The House of Blues in Cambridge, MA (now gone). However, given his surly attitude that night, I highly doubt he would have signed anything. In fact, I bet I wouldn't have even asked him for one even if I had something for him to sign. He was quite the asshole. You know who seemed hesitant to the point where I dropped my request? McCoy Tyner. Weird thing is I went up again about a year later and he was fine with it. I must have caught him at a bad night that first time. I only brought something with me the next time because I had a feeling that was the case. Of course, it could have also been something as simple as a bathroom break. Later, Kevin
  25. On the subject of asking for autographs... I didn't used to do it. I never felt that it was that important. I used to go up and just shake their hands and thank them for the performance and that was it. Then there were a couple of shows where I bought CDs from the performer at the show and it got them to talk about the music on the CD. I then brought a few of my favorites to shows to get signatures and to tell the artist how much I liked the CD. It has resulted in some fun meetings and many laughs. I really enjoy it now. Sure, there are still some who don't dig it... Joey Calderazzo recently was reluctant to sign. However, they are few. In fact, I have asked many of them if they mind and the answer is generally along the lines of, "Are you kidding? Someone thinks highly enough of my music to ask for my autograph and you think I'd be upset?" BTW, Andrew Hill signed the cover of my "Judgement" LP and he wrote something across the entire cover followed by his signature. I have yet to decipher it all. The whole cover! Later, Kevin
