  1. Ahem . . . . there is someone else in your house, is there not? Strangely, not when either package arrived... MG Aaaah, so she's intercepting them at the post office. Aha! Rich chuckles! MG Um, Goldberg, I am confused , what has Buddy Rich got to do with this? Is he working at the post Office and why would he laugh at your missfortunes?
  2. Now that I brought this up, this is an album I would really like to hear again!
  3. Had a Steig album ( with the Satyrs?) on Warner or Reprise, way back when, cannot for the life of me remember what it sounded like! Also have a flyer for a dance where they played second fiddle ( second flute?) to the Sons of Champlin!
  4. Noit for the first time I am with Orchid here, first the Dead and then a looooong fruitless search forsomething else that could sustain my interest over time and be played back to back with Live Dead, then Miles Bitches, Ayler, Sun Ra-and never looked back. Still dig the Dead, 67-72 lots!
  5. I have the 10 cd box that Nonesuch put out a few years ago- records were packaged in slim jewel packs, so I suppose there is nothing new I need here- but this collection seems better focused in the essentials, perhaps making it a bit more user friendly?
  6. The battle of Verdun was enough to give anyone the blues.....
  7. Baba Zula from Istanbul in the Visions of the Middle East festival in Helsingborg. Tomorrow, Yasmin Levy from Jerusalem.
  8. Yes, so its true, finally established beyond any shadow of a doubt, prolonged exposure to the Dead does addle the brain!
  9. Paul, Zoot Sims in Paris about to be released by Toshiba in Japan at 1500 yen. My vote? The Handys on Roulette.
  10. I want some of what Sailors drinking!
  11. Dont hold your breath waiting for a Mosaic, either full blown or select- El Saturn hasnt even gotten the treatment yet!
  12. More sad news. I also enjoyed his playing with Sir Doug, And yes, Paul, Wasted days from the Return of Doug Saldana is a mother! Doug sure surrounded himself with some funky cats! I no longer have it, but there was a great album called I think West Side Blues Again. In fact its time for a thread about all these guys-Shades of Joy et al.....
  13. A missing piece of the jig-saw,for both jazz but also fans of Bay area/ SF Sound! I would love for this to appear!
  14. Yes its the brand spanking new release. It ends with Seven come eleven. Tracktimings according to the liners are as follows; Stomping at the Savoy 4:38 Things aint....5:46 This is always 2:48 Thanks for the memory 5:16 Tangerine 4:29 Stella...3:57 9:20 special 5:42 Deep in a dream 4:32 Look for the silver lining 5:05 Seven come eleven 4.30 Hope you find what you are looking for.
  15. Yeah Kenny, I was also at the Rainbow that time-wasnt it the debut gig of Stings Police as support band? I seem to remember them all dressed up in boiler suits! And it wasnt really Spirit actually a Randy California/ Kapt Kopter gig, trading on the Spirit name and reputation. A couple of years earlier I saw the whole band at Waltham Forrest College! I think that the Family that plays together was thir best album.
  16. Sad news from the Sundazed site, John Locke the keyboard player that gave the early Spirit its jazzy edge has died recently. I really liked the band Spirit up till Doctor Sardonicus, a great bunch of musicians especially Cass Strange Drums, Ed Cassidy who suposedly was previously a jazz musician, anybody know anything about his previous carrier? And any love for the band out there?
  17. Umm, I played it today while eating breakfast on the balcony, but I dont hear no drums! and no reference to Bunker in the liners as far as I can see
  18. Played Blue Duke only the other evening- a very good record!
  19. Yeah, my copy arrived last week. I think it sounds great! But, caveat emptor-this is my first exposure to this music, and I didnt know there was aproblem with over dubbing.
  20. BB. I was looking for something I could play after Live Dead! I had only heard Nefertitti and Silent Way previously at a friends. In at the deep end! ( or perhaps not?)
  21. They do, but you have to go via Runt distribution ( I am at work so I dont have the exact adress) together with several other interesting labels, like the 4 men with beards label.
  22. I have to agree with you Chuck, and not for the first time, only had it a couple of days but its no 1 with a bullet!
  23. Paul, many thanks, yes it is a rerelease of the Flying Dutchman album, appearing to contain 16 tracks, including alternates on Im fer it too and Hello Babe. Many thanks for your prompt help
  24. I am a neophyte when it comes to these 2 giants. I have just obtained a Japanese reissue of the Classic Tenors album, and I can read nothing of the liners...soooo, silly question number 273, what have I bought? Its great, but where does it fit into both of these gentlemens carriers? Info and clues greatfully received!
