  1. Elton Dean Quartet + Roswell Rudd: Rumours of an Incident (Slam)
  2. Sammy Price: Sweet Substitute
  3. Arthur Rhames Trio: Live from Soundscape (DIW)
  4. Doc Cheatham & Sammy Price: Black Beauty
  5. Bird at the Hi-Hat
  6. Plenty of prewar WW II blues musicians (including a number who continued to play after WW II) - too many to mention. And not solo, but I like the duo guitar recordings of Boulou and Elios Ferré very much.
  7. Earl Hooker: Play Your Guitar Mr. Hooker!
  8. Gene Ammons - Sonny Stitt: Boss Tenors in Orbit
  9. Any thoughts on the Skampa Quartet recording of Janacek's Quartets?
  10. Roscoe Mitchell - Montreal - Toronto Art Orchestra: Ride the Wind (Nessa) I'll have to do some more listening and more reading of the booklet - there's a lot of information there - but just giving a first listen to the music without preconceptions was quite an experience.
  11. Late - I guess a number of us have been away - but Belated Happy Birthday! I was away long enough that I forgot I already wished you a happy birthday, but I guess it's okay to do it again.
  12. Thanks for posting those, Dan. They're a fitting way to remember Bruce.
  13. I read the Evan Horne series and enjoyed them. RIP, Mr. Moody.
  14. I can't remember a lot of things that I've said. Unfortunately, my wife remembers all of them.
  15. James P. Johnson: Father of the Stride Piano
  16. Red Garland: Red in Bluesville
  17. I don't know if you said it. I was just quoting from a review of yours that Dan posted.
  18. I don't know whether Bird's playing on this recording "is at a level notably higher than any Parker had reached before" - I'd have to do a lot more listening before I could make that statement. In the end, it doesn't matter. Bird sounds at ease, seemingly in a good frame of mind, and he plays beautifully here. Thanks to Dan for starting this thread, and to Larry for his comments. You guys got me to listen to this music and to enjoy and appreciate it once again.
  19. Charlie Parker: Boston 1952 Thanks to Dan and Larry for inducing me to take this off the shelf and listen again.
  20. I'm not a fan of the sound either, but the music wins out.
  21. I don't have any inside info, but I'd be very surprised if there were 5000 copies of this box.
