You're probably right, Larry. It's been so long since I saw the film that I'd forgotten how the music was done. Bird's solos with a different rhythm section sounds right. Actually, it doesn't sound "right", but that's evidently what was done.

That was a movie where they would have been better off letting Bird play Bird rather than having Niehaus play Bird.

Nothing anywhere me. Looks like Half Price is a western - midwestern deal.

I haven't heard it all but, of the early records, I like the quartet sides with Russ Freeman, and a couple of the Riversides. Later Chet I like very much includes several Steeplechases - The Touch of Your Lips, This Is Always, No Problem with Duke Jordan, and Diane with Paul Bley. Two later recordings I like but which I don't feel are quite on the level of the Steeplechase records are Mr. B on Timeless and Charlie Haden's Silence on Soul Note.

Persuasion I've enjoyed watching Sally Hawkins in all of the productions I've seen ger in.

I saw both Chappaqua (with Ravi Shankar's music, rather than Ornette's) and Who's Crazy years ago - both terrible films. Ornette's music for both is memorable. As I recall, Who's Crazy also included Marianne Faithfull singing an Ornette ballad - can't recall which one.

I've never heard her, but to me, that doesn't bode well.

There are some edits on certain of the Buck Clayton Jam Sessions on Columbia during that period.

Two that are rather unsung but very fine.

Carmell Jones - disc 3 - the Harold Land: Jazz Impressions of Folk Music record Michael Cuscuna's reminiscence in the liner notes relates how Chuck helped rescue this from obscurity. Great that he did. It's a damn fine session.

I probably have posted this before, but what the heck. A good friend of mine files his records in alphabetical order, with no regard for genre. He says that he likes the idea of Eric Dolphy sitting on the shelf next to Fats Domino.

Great music! I don't have it on vinyl - just the 2 CD set which also includes tributes to W.C. Handy and Hoagy Carmichael. Chuck is also the one who turned me on to this set. He has a generous spirit and doesn't hesitate to share his knowledge and enthusiasms.

Sad to read this. I know she hasn't had an easy life, but she kept keeping on.

Sadly (at least in my opinion), the way of the world today.

Much more interesting for me to look at the designs on the score than to listen to the music.

I guess I've been lucky. Since the Forums returned, they've always been here when I'm here.

It's good you do this sort of thing and make these sorts of discoveries, Larry. I wouldn't have the time, energy, and probably, the interest, to do what you do.
