I couldn't choose one favorite. When I saw the thread title, I thought it was going to be another lovefest for A Love Supreme. Glad that it was about Interstellar Space.

I'd go for a Rega Planar 3 and a Shure M97 XE cartridge. I'm sure there are those who will look down on the Shure, but it has excellent tracking (a very important point if you care about preserving your LPs) and very good dynamics and detail at a very low price. If your friend wants to enjoy listening to music, this might be all he needs.

I don't how well those covers were received, but I consider them two of the worst looking covers in my collection.

I heard them play live around the time this was issued - great night of music. Time to give this another hearing. ((I agree about the cover image.)
