  1. I like BassDrumBone, but I'll pass on this one.
  2. Happy Birthday!
  3. Ellington: Afro-Bossa
  4. Colin Dexter: The Wench Is Dead One of the better Morse mysteries. The conceit here is that Morse solves a 130 year old mystery, mostly from his hospital bed. A bit far fetched, but well done, nonetheless.
  5. Colonel Sanders General Tso Captain Midnight
  6. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/11/arts/music/bob-dylan-1966-live-recordings-video.html?_r=0 It's interesting that Richard Alderson, who was the sound engineer for Dylan's 1966 tour, later recorded some of the worst sounding jazz albums that I've ever heard.
  7. Mad Max Gale Storm Sam Huff
  8. Sonny Rollins: Tenor Madness
  9. Charlie Parker: At the Pershing Ballroom - Chicago 1950 (Zim)
  10. Thanks to all for the good wishes. I had a great day yesterday.
  11. Can't name nine , but: Phil Spector John Wall Paul Simon
  12. Happy Birthday 2016-style, Jeff!
  13. Happy Birthday, Neal! - from another birthday boy.
  14. Thanks to all for the good wishes. And Happy Birthday to Jeff's dad. It's his birthday too.
  15. Music as part of society - What a subject. For myself, even though I realize that music is in some sense a part of society, I've always listened to music for my own emotional needs, whatever they may be at any time. Society never comes into play for me when I listen. I read that someone once said - can't recall who - that society is just other people. Other people don't listen for me.
  16. Not in the U.S.
  17. Vee-Jay has been sold and reissued so many times that who knows how many "master tapes" are out there.
  18. Jelly Roll Morton and His Orchestra: "Burnin' the Iceberg" - take one. The second take is more controlled, but I love the wildness of the first take.
  19. Hearing Mingus Ah Um when I was 17 gave me a sense of what music could convey. Then, a few months later, I heard a recording of Louis Armstrong's "Skid-Dat-De-Dat" (with Louis commenting on it) on Ralph Gleason's Jazz Casual TV show and that introduced me to another side of the music that I'd never heard. After that, I was hooked.
  20. Wasn't Pres a fan?
  21. Let's let the Cubs' fans enjoy something beyond the moment. They deserve it.
