  1. Subways Are for Sleeping (Columbia Masterworks mono) Found this hidden away on my shelves. I bought it when I was 16 and was searching out new (for me) musical genres. My interest in Broadway musicals didn't last long and I probably hadn't played this in 48 or 49 years. It was fun listening to it after all this time, and it was interesting to hear how Broadway has changed. Even a show like this one, which wasn't a hit and supposedly barely recovered its costs had more tuneful melodies and wittier lyrics than just about anything new these days.
  2. I haven't heard that track, so my comments are general, not specific to that cut. I couldn't disagree more - I love Mac Rebennack's voice. I've always wished I was a better singer, but the kind of voice I would want is more like Dr. John than Frank Sinatra. I do agree that his voice is perhaps not well suited to ballads - or at least, better suited to blues and R & B. We agree to disagree. I've always felt that there were dozens of singers in New Orleans who could put him to shame.
  3. Now you can listen again so you'll begin to really know that music. Me too.
  4. Enjoyed that version of "Wanted Man", Neal.
  5. I'm sure others have beaten me to it, but welcome back, Matthew.
  6. Dr. John Plays Mac Rebennack (Clean Cuts) Pretty good record. Would have been even better if Mac hadn't vocalised on "The Nearness of You". The man cannot sing.
