  2. Great record! Fine playing by all involved - Dupree, Pete Brown, Ennis Lowery (Larry Dale), Wendell Marshall, & Willie Jones. Pete Brown made a very good record in 1954 for Bethlehem with Joe Wilder, Wade Legge, Wally Richardson, Gene Ramey, & Rudy Collins. It was reissued on Affinity (paired with a Jonah Jones date) as Harlem Jump and Swing - AFF 96.
  3. I can't say for sure that he was an influence, but I hear Ayler in some of Roscoe Mitchell's playing.
  4. More rain today. Supposed to be dry for the next 5 days starting tomorrow. Hope so - enough of the wet stuff.
  5. Rerun of Anthony Bourdain visiting Cleveland and meeting up with Harvey Pekar and Marky Ramone. Entertaining, but I wouldn't last a week if I ate the food they scarfed down on the show.

  9. Did I hallucinate or was there a post saying there was to be a big box of LT material ?? Assuming the unlikelihood of the two us hallucinating simultaneously, I'd say you didn't! Must have been a triple hallucination.

  11. I don't care who was or wasn't influential, or who's # 5, but I will listen to "Immigration Blues" tomorrow - too tired tonight. I'm sure there'll be something interesting to hear.
  12. Almost happened - Student Studies 1966 recording on BYG Japan and later on Affinity. Taylor - Silva -Cyrille with Jimmy Lyons added to the mix.

  14. I'm just waiting for a couple weeks of dry weather. Perhaps Mother Nature can ship some of our daily rain to Texas.
  15. Stan HasselgÄrd wrote it - original title was "My Little Swede Shoes".
  16. I've read "Sheeper," and Ross was one of the two or three best friends I ever had -- a great novelist IMO, a cross between Schubert and Chekhov, perhaps. Ross Feld's Plum Poems is well worth checking out too.
  17. The Artists House DVD includes student performances and a fascinating post-class interview/Q & A with Cecil Taylor.
  18. Francona is officially the ex-Red Sox manager: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2011/09/30/sports/main20114132.shtml Should be the players who are outta there, but that never happens.
  19. Have no idea who it is. Looks like a guy who told his plastic surgeon that he wanted to look like Christopher Walken.
  20. Not to me.
  21. Malcolm X ?
