  1. Yes, great concert!
  2. Damn! You forget about the Dead for a few decades and look what happens!
  3. I don't want Connoisseurs. I want RVGs. From the first fifteen years of the label.
  4. Weird Dead moment of the day: I was listening to some Dead rehearsal tapes of 1975 (I think for the SNACK thang) and all of a sudden Weir says "Okay for a quarter: who wrote "Misty"?" This leads to some discussion of Erroll Garner and how he couldn't read music and even led to Jerry playing "Misty" on his guitar. . . . If I had noticed that the last time I heard those tracks, about a year ago, I've totally forgotten!
  5. on the JOS on these RVGs. . . like the looks of these lists, all items I'm glad are out in RVG.
  6. This is strange. . . because I bought a set for a friend and I'm pretty sure he told me he had received a low number (I had preordered), in the low 200s I thought. I'll try to remember to ask him soon.
  7. Damn! And now it's as out of print as the Fillmore Set, and probably commanding even LARGER prices!
  8. I think they were just trying to keep Brad humble. . . You know how it is with the swollen heads of those with low number sets. . . .
  9. Shoot. I was hoping they'd start that series with the "Cassidy" set!

  11. Wow! Hip-O Select is starting a new series of reissues of James Brown Singles! Starting in a few days! As Shawn says, "ROCKIN' GOOD NEWS!"
  12. Maybe. But Rhino seems to like to reissue/repackage stuff. YES, but Rhino is now the outlet for the boys. .. they were thinking of putting out another ten cd set.. . maybe they are primed to have Rhino do it. . . . It's my insane little hope.
  13. Well, yeah. But I found this pretty interesting, at the bottom of the email I received: Grateful Dead Vault News Stay tuned for upcoming details regarding a very special Grateful Dead Vault release on the horizon for late this year. We look forward to sending production updates as they develop in the weeks ahead! I wonder if that is the box set that mysteriously hand an order page and then did not appear earlier in the year?
  14. I'm a big fan of Dakar myself.
  15. Wow, our posts were one minute apart with the news!
  16. Just got a "jerry-gram" that Rhino is putting out a new two cd "Best of Jerry Garcia" that has one studio best of, and a live disc with some previously unreleased stuff. PLUS of course by preordering there are two bonus discs you get, one a complete interview of Jerry by Dr. Demento, another more live material considered for but bumped from the second disc of the "Best of" two cd. And intriguingly at the bottom of the email is THIS: Grateful Dead Vault News Stay tuned for upcoming details regarding a very special Grateful Dead Vault release on the horizon for late this year. We look forward to sending production updates as they develop in the weeks ahead!
  17. I'll disagree: I think there was good reason to release this set. Not all this material has been on US cd or remained on US cd in print. Not all of it is essential Diz but it's nicely assembled, I think the sound is great, and it's a set I'm enjoying. (I too had most all the sessions in hand beforehand; I knew what I was getting). 18. Yes, and then a store opened on Lamar near Koenig, what was a Randall's. Haven't yet been there.
  19. Here in Austin I used to frequent these stores weekly, and though the jazz interest is higher in books, and not really that high (I hardly ever found music there I wanted to buy) I did buy lots of books in general. The last eight years without a car and the closing of the best of the stores near me has meant I haven't visited too often at all.
  20. The Rhino box is nice but everything that's essential is on the new double CD, in reality, Aretha's performances from set to set were very close to identical, so the double set contains everything that's really different and avoids the repetition. As I said, FANTASTIC MUSIC! I actually don't mind the repetition of the box set, but you're right, this is the distillation and even both original lps were great productions of fantastic music.
  21. FANTASTIC MUSIC!
  22. I've encountered several instances of Grossman on tenor with Miles that have not made it to released versions, either the date is not released or the tenor solo has been excised. Good playing . . . I agree it's a shame that the soprano was so emphasised in these bands (Bartz played plenty soprano as well) but I think the idea was to be more "guitar like" than a tenor would be. I sometimes DO get into Grossman's soprano. . . .
  23. I haven't heard that in a long time. . . it's great music, I remember the sound being dull. But dull is better than shrill and thin!
  24. Right now having a mug of Stash "English Breakfast" tea.
  25. Harrar is my favorite Ethiopian coffee. . .and was my favorite city to visit!
