  1. Looks like three RCA (on Legacy in remaster) Nina Simone cds are added. . .
  2. My Ellington shipped this week. . . wish I were home!
  3. For about six years I had an all latex mattress, amazing, love it, it's my favorite ever. My wife though. . . she gradually felt she didn't like it anymore and made me by a Select Comfort "Sleep Number" bed. SHE'S happy as heck about it. I'm not that jazzed about it but my vote no longer counts. Lately we've been sleeping on hotel beds. ARGH.
  4. I have the Goodman Centenial cd/dvd. VERY COOL.
  5. I just HAVE to say. . . . WOMP! WOMP!
  6. Many more happy ones!
  7. Well, I'm far from home for a week or so and can't refresh myself with this. I didn't have the greatest sounding vinyl of these, and the cd sounds better than a lot of Collectables do, that I can say for certain. I can't answer that question of yours specifically though at this time.
  8. The Collectables as far as I can tell in comparison to the vinyls I have is complete, unedited. Sound's pretty damned good too.
  9. Well, I know what you mean about Taylor, but it was the whole song, the way he slowly built up to that fabulous soulful ending. . . that was an experience.
  10. Ah, that stare, that whole shtick of hers seems so phoney to me! And there's nothing behind her vocal glibbness for me. . . .Emothionless posturing. Just my two cents!
  11. Many more happy ones!
  12. Richard Tee! Stuff! Me likee!
  13. Man, must be great stuff! Hopefully I can get home soon, unseal an envelope, and get my world rocked! Meanwhile I'm enjoying a live Andy Bey radio performance!
  14. Sutton, in my humble opinion, is an incredibly gifted, mature and skillfull singer. She possesses nearly everything ought to be in the skills of a jazz musician in terms of swing (the main factor!!), pitch, harmonic knowledge, techinque and use of the voice like an instrument (etc). In her records she sometimes play duets with only bass or drums (this could suggest something of her rhythmic skills!). Jet her voice may sound too clear, rethoric and simple for someone's standards, and she chooses a little too much the "classic jazz standards" side, maybe, in her repertory as in the arrangements. Her last two records seem to repeat known patterns more than I expected. But she's such a great interpreter she masters the vocal jazz idiom as a few living singers. Best cds: Introducing Tierney Sutton (A Records 1995), Blue In Green (Telarc 2001), Something Cool (Telarc 2002) - always according to my taste I've heard all those records. . .and. . .well, I totally respectd your taste! I just don't dig her. Maybe one day.
  15. Taylor Hicks . . . "worked it out dude!" I just ignored Rod. It was easy. I was surprised at Daughtry's performance. Really liked it. Paris too. . . she could play Dinah Washington in a lurid biopic in about ten years. McPhee looks beautiful as hell but bores the hell out of me. I like Taylor, I like Elliot. Reminds me of my BROTHER Shawn. Sings better. . . come on, ya gotta admit that Mr. D! I don't think Elliot will be around much longer, which is a shame. Taylor seems to have real solid popularity. I wish I'd seen the SNL parody!
  16. Pres Lives!
  17. Yeah, I can understand that. I feel that way about AEC, I have a few sessions and that's enough for me!
  18. I got a very early set upon release, with a low number, but that doesn't help. I really like this set.
  19. You know, the Williams discs on Frog sound great. So do the ones on Collectors Classics. But I also must say the Chronogical (sic) Classics editions are excellent sounding, and a great way to collect the majority of the sides. I have about nine of these, may try to get those I'm missing one day soon.
  20. And I was crazy about her from the first time I saw her.
  21. I met my wife in 1973. We started living together in 1990. . . . Actually, I met her in 1973 when we were both in our first year at University of Chicago, and I tried unsuccessfully to romance her, and I did manage to befriend her. I kept in touch with her til 1980 when I left Ohio for Austin and she left Chicago for Boston. Then nearly ten years later she found my number and called me out of the blue and I seized the moment. We started talking big dollars on the phone, visiting each other and she moved to Austin within five months. She's my best friend. It was serious the moment she called me up in 1990.
  22. So glad I have mine!
  23. Well to each their own of course but I have come to really like every session. . . Massey Hall. .. Thad Jones. . . Hazel Scott. .. John Dennis. . . Jackie Paris. . . all those bones. . . man, this is jampacked!
