  1. I also like those Francy Boland Orchestra lps on MPS. . . . And the Quartet lp.
  2. My father has a wind up Victrola, big cabinet, that was his father's. Man, 78s sound fun on that!
  3. I'll bet they sound great on that Silvertone!
  4. Yes, shamed to say I have. . . . Listening to one right now. . . The Cosmic Scene (the RSD cdr edition) --- remastered from lp by the excellent engineer Robert Shawn Dudley.
  5. Shoes?
  6. CDR trick? What might that be. . . .
  7. I got shit and shinola. . . sometimes get them confused.
  8. I love the music on this set. I'm the kind of guy who wants ALL of the hot jazz on Blue Note. But for many this may be all they need. Well selected, great booklet.
  9. Hmmm. . . maybe. I still think "Summer Dawn" on Argo is worth mentioning; it really holds sequenced as it is.
  10. 20 bucks? GO FOR IT.
  11. Michael, Sony, please do this one right, include the original art and the mono/stereo alternate versions? I seriously love this one.
  12. No Shit?
  13. I'm a big big fan of this band as well. I'm a Klook fanatic, and I think that Boland was amazing in this band, his arranging and his conception and soloing. I see this as an Ellingtonian extension into the sixties and beyond and I want anything I can get of the large and small ensembles. The Shihab on Argo needs mentioning here as well! I have seen a number of broadcasts listed here and there that I would love to see issued! Maybe someday!
  14. BOBBY JASPAR! Got it about a year after its releases.
  15. I'm a huge Lateef fan. In fact, he's one of my favorite tenors as far as sound and expressive style goes. I'm not able to post much lately but suffice it to say I really like tons of his oeuvre, though I'm not that big a fan of his newagey sort of material. Wish the final bits of Savoy material, and the remaining Impulse titles, would hurry up and make it to domestic cd release.
  16. Just my two cents while I have a quick chance at a computer here at M. D. Anderson: GREAT titles! Wish they weren't Connoisseurs (as I really don't prefer the sound).
  17. Hi Charlieboy! Welcome "stranger"!
  18. Several. The deleted Undercurrent Blues on Capitol. A HEP cd, Benny's Bop. . . which is better still. The session with Mary Lou Williams is a favorite.
  19. One that really means a lot because I can really relate to it in my personal life is "Come Rain or Come Shine."
  20. A new executive staff member of our agency sought me out because he heard I was into jazz and wanted to talk to me about it. First he let me know that he played alto, tenor and baritone sax, had since band in high school, but kept his hands in at it. THEN he let me know that he liked Kenny G and some others. . .the most "jazzworthy" of which was Kirk Whalum. I smiled my way through it all. Told him of the thousands of recordings I had and my interest in jazz from nine or ten decades, and he was . . . surprised I think. Wants to talk more. . . . It's a worthy cause. Cancer SUCKS. You can quote me.

    Yusef Lateef's Funk

I love Lateef. He's funky all over and throughout in one way or another. A good collection of his funkier stuff in the broad sense is the 32jazz two cd set "The Man with the Big Front Yard."
  22. Many more happy ones young fella!
  23. Have you heard his work with Jimmy Scott (especially) and Cassandra Wilson? He comps adequately to my ears, and in the case of the Scott he really arranged a great album with some originality in the accompaniment and the texture.
  24. Hey, if you've got the ten cd box set I agree hang with it, don't follow my on and off compulsion to upgrade. "Dreams." I just noticed that before reading your post. I've sort of had a bit of a sleep deficit lately and it shows!
  25. I like Karrin. She's perky? Guess so. I like her better than Diana Krall.
