  1. The recent cd reissue of "November Girl" does indeed sound really good. In comparison to the vinyl I've heard.
  2. Wow those look good! I've been really enjoying the Ray Nance!
  3. I agree with you two, this is a great live album. I've never seena cd version from any corner of the world.
  4. I'm with you there. The photos I've seen make me really want to hear!
  5. Well I'm certainly a fan of the album, though I wouldn't call it my favorite Candid. Really fun set. Love how Roy is set up and then delivers!
  6. I like these, in fact I like these more than quite a few other Rudd pieces (of earlier vintage). And I like the sound. Going to have to root these out and spin them again when I'm back home again.
  7. Yeah now you can customize your "title" to anything you. . . . Oh. . . Never mind.
  8. You know, I've always thought it would be easy for me to be a Copenhagen convert.
  9. The big blue box omitted studio chatter that will (I've heard) be included here. Sound will be different. (Better? For many, the answer will probably be yes). I have probably 90% of the big blue box in other versions now that I prefer to listen to (and I enjoy the single album approach as I have had all these lps as well and know them that way) but I still have the box and like to listen to it (mostly at work, that box set makes for a nice day of work!)
  10. Another for this set. wonderful!!! Man, I really took offense at the Benny crack! Okay, just kidding. There's lots of great Goodman to hear. The three RCA set is the way to go for this Quartet (well, not strictly true, but yeah!) stuff. And there are other small group Goodman material to check out. You really owe it to yourself to hear the material with Charlie Christian.

    Prestige RVGs

It's a dead rip off of the BN style! Really shows how much care Concord are going to take of the Fantasy heritage, doesn't it? MG Yes, but I can see the value of two ongoing series by RVG with a similar style. There is a certain type of collector who will relish the near conformity. And the association of the RVG look between two labels is not really likely to hurt either label sales, it may help them both.
  12. Hey, the sound on that Allen material is okay in the form I have it . . . should sound pretty good on this new release. I wish someone would release a dvd of the Tonight Show performance (lengthy!) by the second quintet!
  13. There's a whole cd of Louis Armstrong All Stars on Ed Sullivan legitimately released. Fantastic!
  14. The Jaspar/Amram sides are as good as you think they would be!

    The Yazoo Label

I don't have that one, but I have about ten discs now of vintage Hawaiin music. .. really nice stuff! The real current thing performed on a starry Hawaiian night on one of the islands is really nice stuff too!
  16. To answer for myself, yes, yes, yes. Sutton does't do too much for me. I'll give her more time, maybe she hasn't "hit me right."
  17. I think there's a good chance it is Lillian. Nice photo of Billie!

    The Yazoo Label

I have a number of Yazoo cds. . . .I think I like the piano players series the best. Nice label. . . haven't bought any in a few years. Hmmmm. . . .
  19. I think you'll like this one, I think it's better than any of the Skye material I've heard.
  20. I've got the lp. . . . Yeah, it's funky jammy. I've got the other one, Snake Foot or something. . . which is not quite as good.
  21. Like all of the Rearwards it's very good indeed, with superb sound quality. Is this the CD or LP version (I've got the 2LP set version). Very relaxed music and some enjoyable Jimmy Woode vocals. Cool. I got a little worried because AMG gave it a fairly negative review. It's the CD version. Sidewinder speaks true! Great stuff.

    Prestige RVGs

I listened to both "The Hawk Relaxes" and "Quiet Kenny" again today with my pal Dave over my second system (the B&O system in the living room) and we both had a good time listening to the nice sound! I'm hoping they turn Mr. Van Gelder loose on the Prestige Monk material.
  23. Can't defend themselves. . . or can't slap their accuser upside the head with a 1988 Manhattan Records distributed longbox copy of "Adam's Apple"? Hans, I'm glad your command of English was defended, which is exemplary.
  24. Tj, I'm so happy for you! Erroll is a delight that I took too long finding myself.
