  1. I feel your pain.
  2. Louis Armstrong. Born 1901. Bill Coleman. Born 1904. Herb Ellis. Born 1921. Sonny Simmons. Born 1933.
  3. Agreed. I miss that dude too. Hope all is still well. Need to try an email.
  4. Africa Brass is following the Dead around in a VW Microbus. Nah, last I heard he was okay, taking time off from the board.
  5. I like Sweatman's recordings a LOT as well. Jazz Oracle fairly recenlty reissued a wonderful sounding two cd set with extensive booklet: http://www.jazzoracle.com/catalogue/BDW_8046.asp
  6. I haven't seen a post for a while. Was just thinking about that and him. Here's hopin' all is well. Maybe he's on tour playing sax with the Stones?
  7. I have this on the way from cduniverse, though I have the material in the format you do Jim. . .and I think another format! But I want to buy this for similar reasons. . . and will enjoy it I know. It will probably sound better, which is a plus. And it's authorized. I don't think this is the greatest Coltrane since sliced bread, but it sure is a spirited bunch of performances by this quartet!
  8. Well, I guess that's good Wolf. . . Never, thanks for sharing those impressions.
  9. Waistlines on women's jeans are getting higher again.
  10. I've got quite a bit of them on two "Jazz Archive" cds. Sound okay. . . will sound better on the Storyville!
  11. Storyville is going to put out two cds of the Ellington stuff from later on. . . some of which I think is in the Bear Family set. . . I'm going for the Storyvilles!
  12. Alison, thanks for joining us!
  13. Will be interesting I guess. Are they going to try to get behind that limestone door? Not going to be easy! I've been reading a lot of ancient history this last year or so. . . . It's always fascinated me. That pyramid is unique, and these shafts are not found in other pyramids. It's just amazing to consider the construction of this huge monument (perhaps) 4500 years ago.
  14. Johnny Almond Music Machine is likely: Johnny Almond (sax), Jimmy Crawford(g), Jon Mark(g), Roger Sutton(b), Alan White(ds) 1. Patent Pending: Ensingle 2. Before Dawn 3. VooDoo 4. Forest 5. Solar Level 6. To R.K. 7. Reversed For Two Horns 8. Pequeno 8. Nova 9. Tales Of Junior
  15. I've never owned one or lived in a house that had one. Not sure I want one!

ak, I know how you feel but I think that the sound on the downloads is very good in its Apple format, and I really enjoy the music that I have downloaded and had been wanting to have it. . . .It's cheaper than Japanese cds, and really not much more packaging with those either.

    Verve LPRs

I don't believe we're missing anything. Mine doesn't either and I think I remember this lp when I had seen it as just having the front and back as on the LPR front and back. . . . It's a very nice session. I'd never heard Johnson playing bass clarinet before.
  19. I would like to see a new reissue and would buy it; I feel that sonics could and would be improved; the newest Columbia releases sound much better than the house sound circa 1994. . . . I don't have any knowlegde of what may be unrleased in the Monk section of the Columbia vaults. Certainly there may be some more concert recordings in the can. .. that seems very likely considering the contents of "Mysterioso". . . .
  20. Yes. After ESP-Disk's silence about the upcoming set, I canceled my pre-order. Took them long enough to update their website!
  21. Thanks Brownie; I couldn't remember which outfit backed her.
  22. Bill, congrats!
  23. Did she do any singing with the Orch at the Plaza event?
  24. The original vinyls will sound pretty damned good. BUT the new cds have quite a bit of extra material added AND portions of songs restored from edits. . . . You will miss worthwhile music going the vinyl only route.
