  1. Of the ones you list, I would think the Elveen is the best single fit. But the Byrd / Adams I know you would love. . . if you don't have any of the individual lps get it!
  2. The Jeri Southern I like a lot is when she accompanies herself on the piano. She's real good at that and the results are special.
  3. Kurt did an okay remastering job on those Elektras that Blue Note reissued (Evans, Getz/Dailey, Bird in D.C.). . . .
  4. Peter, Thanks. I'm pretty sure that is not the same place that was on my streetcorner unless it has been moved (quite likely). . . may be the same place Trane and Tyner met at. . . .!
  5. Doesn't bother me if it's gone. I liked it most when it was young, and less "daring". . . .A lot of the images from the last three months or so I didn't need to see! I don't personally think it will make one iota of difference as far as gender attendance goes here however. Rainy and Rachel and the few other wonderful women we have here are very special!
  6. Actually, David, that group as it was with Horace AND Randy on piano under the horns. . . that would be something to hear!
  7. Man I know what you mean. . .that's why I'm NOT preordering these!
  8. David, What a band that would be!
  9. They look good. . . . ! I have most of the material in both sets. Excellent music!
  10. Good job both Evan and Jim!
  11. Lampi is wild! I bought the Tommy Turrentine SACD hybrid, and the latest RCA Ellington cd/dvd combo. . . all ordered from cduniverse.com
  12. I hear that! If I were more into movies at home and had more time, I'd have to have one!
  13. From what I can tell it's been on DVD from international markets but not yet in the US. . . . Scheduled here for a November release. Sure is one that I'm glad I saw on the big screen! I prefer to watch movies that way, truth be told!
  14. Haven't read this one. Have read a book about expatriot black artists living in Paris that was fascinating, Tyler Stovall's "Paris Noir: African Americans in the City of Light" . . . . I bet this one is good. Me I finally started reading "Beyond Belief" and can tell it is going to be another good one from Ms. Pagels.
  15. Yes, there will probably be at least 64 copies on ebay!
  16. Yeah. . .funny how that works out huh? I really liked the different versions of the story and how it unfolded the tale and the character development. Great story material, very well acted. And I love the blind musician and his music!

    Time

Some really good sessions. I like the Bennie Green and the Tommy Turrentine a lot. The Sonny Clark is one of his best sessions. . . period. And the Little is . . .timeless!
  18. Any fans of this movie out there? This one blew me away when I went to see it on Sunday. Beautifully paced and narrated storyline, incredible cinematography, marial arts choreography, scenery, sets. . . . A wonderful cinematic experience!
  19. Good speak, plenty on top for this red-blooded American boy!
  20. I like that quote "More than I needed, less than I wanted" . . . I guess I own "more than I need, less than I want, and about as many as Sangrey's posts" . . .
  21. I have only once or twice bought something that I already had thinking that I didn't have it. Once. . . I blame the record company for "disguising" it so well! Another time I had only myself to blame. I often know I have something. . .but can't find it. That's a whole 'nother kettle of fish!
  22. Me no havee cable so me just cook by hook and crook. She photographs pretty well though if you ask me! (Rachael is on the left)
  23. Hmmmm. . .my least favorite parts of that album! Go figure. This one is highly recommended too: she does a stunning turn as a sidewoman:
