  10. Watched--and listened to through the living room audio/visual system--the 90th Birthday tribute concert for Willie Nelson on CBS from the DVR. Everyone brought their A game to this Willie fest and Lukas Nelson and Dave Matthews really impressed me--and I confess neither ever impressed me before. A well done, fun concert.

  15. Listening to this great performance by Pops and his All Stars again this morning. This is just what I need this morning. “The Essential Louis Armstrong” Vanguard 2 cd set, disc 1
  16. Emily Remler “East to Wes” Concord cd 640×631 101 KB Followed by “The Essential Louis Armstrong” Vanguard 2 cd set, disc 1 Among other great sounds some killer Tyree Glenn.
  17. The more I listen to Green the more I think that the main reason he does those repetitive riffs and runs is that he is mimicking horns and even horn sections. I listened to "Oh Baby" this morning and there are portions where Green and Patton are emulating sections in a swing orchestra backing the soloists and where Green's chords do so as well for Patton and other soloists. And Green's own solos sound as if they are structured and shaped similar to a saxophonist's.
  18. Big John Patton “Oh Baby” Blue Note 85th Anniversary UHQCD
  19. Bill O’Connell “A Change is Gonna Come” Bill’s playing reminds me of Herbie Hancock, not in a derivative way, just stylistically. This is a good one! I have one other of his. … need to get more.
  20. Duduka Da Fonseca Quintet “Samba Jazz-Jazz Samba” A fantastic cd imo–and one that will show just how expressive your system can be.
  21. I still haven't digested the last shipment! But I'll welcome the next installments.
  22. Santana “Caravanserai” Sony Quad/Stereo SACD, stereo SACD layer
  23. “Nat King Cole at the Blue Note Chicago” cd 2 This was an RSD release on LP and cd but is coming out next month on both formats in a more permanent edition. Quite nice performances and sound is decent.
  24. Emily Remler “Retrospective, Volume 1–Standards” Concord cd Her vibe is a great way to start a day. “How Insensitive” with Coryell here is lovely.
