  1. Time for some Benny. “The Yale University Music Library: Benny Goodman, Volume 8” Music Masters cd 300×276 8.72 KB
  2. As they used to say on Seinfeld "Not bloody likely!" I think Mosaic would be priced out of that opportunity.
  3. Yes, I love that song as well.
  4. I agree. It's amazing how many cds you can get for one low postage price for example.
  5. Yes, “Tales from Topographic Oceans” Atlantic 2 LP set, LP 2 Getting ready for tomorrow’s big ass box set. 400×305 18.1 KB
  6. Yes it is. Over the years I've become a bigger Woody fan than ever. I have wanted to revisit the Mosaics I have. . . need to get to it.
  7. My listening to this yesterday got interrupted so I'm re-playing this first disc. Classic V-Disc Big Band Jazz Sessions” Mosaic Records disc 1
  8. Just got in “Classic V-Disc Big Band Jazz Sessions” Mosaic Records 10 cd set and am playing disc 1–some great Woody Herman sides start this off. A very handsome set, with a fat booklet. And the sound seems really really good.
  9. “Stars Of Jazz Volume 1” Jazzology cd 300×298 10.7 KB Bass – Rail Wilson Clarinet – Barney Bigard Cornet – Wild Bill Davison Drums – Hillard Brown Guitar – Eddie Condon Liner Notes – George H. Buck, Jr. Piano, Text By – Art Hodes Trombone – Jim Beebe Recorded 1972 High Point, North Carolina Some fine musicians, some fine music.
  10. On to “Eddie Condon Town Hall Concerts, Volume 8” Jazzology 2 cd set, disc 2 300×258 7.98 KB and then Bobby Hackett Featuring Vic Dickenson “Live At The Roosevelt Grill, Vol. 3” 500×500 62.6 KB and now Tom Jobim “My Soul Sings–The Great Brazilian Songbook” 398×400 27.8 KB An essential album in my collection, some of Tom’s final recordings, compiling his contributions to the Lumiar Records “Songbook” series.
  11. I got caught up on the weekly releases so far of "All Creatures Great and Small" (the new series)--seriously excellent television.
  12. “Eddie Condon Town Hall Concerts, Volume 8” Jazzology 2 cd set, disc 1 Any concert that starts off with an Ernie Caceres solo on baritone is a great one! The first show has Ernie, Pee Wee, Max and Mr. T! And then Mr. Bechet!
  13. Yesterday evening we got about an inch of snow but the temperature in the 20s felt good! We took a nice walk before a late dinner. Colder now, 11 but should make it up to 20 this afternoon. I’ll take it. Starting off with a cd I haven’t heard for some time, which is making me realize again what a fantatic aitist Connie Kay was.Took me a while to realize his always appropriate accompaniment. “Milt Jackson” Prestige/OJC cd
  14. “1943 The Complete Bobby Hackett World Broadcasting Jam Sessions” Jazzology cd Time for some Chicago Style! Amazing sound quality. 297×300 12.4 KB Bass – Bob Casey Clarinet – John Peper Cornet – Bobby Hackett Drums – Maurice Purtill Guitar – Eddie Condon Piano – Frank Signorelli Tenor Saxophone – Nick Caizza Trombone – Ray Conniff This recording session was produced and supervised by Milt Gabler for World Broadcasting Systems, Inc. in New York City on December 23, 1943.
  15. Cal Tjader “Catch the Groove: Live at the Penthouse 1962-1967” Jazz Detective 2 cd set, disc 2
  16. Mine was due yesterday, looks as if it coming tomorrow instead.
  17. RIP to one of the faithful keepers of the flame.
  18. Chick Corea & Origin “A Week at the Blue Note” 6 cd box set, disc 2
  19. Milt Jackson and John Coltrane “Bags & Trane” Atlantic cd WEA Japan
  20. On to Tom Harrell “Oak Tree” High Note cd I love Tom Harrell’s music more and more. Re-listening to his discs they seem to open up to me and reveal new subtle “cool” aspects. I really like all his High Note releases.
  21. Mario Adnet “Jobiim Jazz” Adventure Music cd Adventure Music has a consistently excellent house sound to their releases and I wanted to hear how it is presented in the system today. Mario Adnet is an excellent player and arranger and I share his love for Jobim’s music–this is a wonderful listen.
  22. I’ve been wanting to pull this out and listen to this epic length “tune” for two weeks or so. Finally ready. Bob Dylan “Murder Most Foul,” from “Rough and Rowdy Ways” the second disc. Sony Japan 2 cd set.
  23. Duke Ellington and his Orchestra “Newport '58” Mosaic cd An early morning shift to Ellington. Ellington the trickster magician musical painter. After decades of listening to his music putting one of his recordings on to spin is an immediate transition to his colorful world of grace, sinuosity and sass.
  24. On to another Sun Ra, “When Angles Speak of Love” Myth Science cd This material is from 1963 and rather “out there” but an interesting sonic experience. Suits the hour and my mood. This is very 1963 exploratory jazz, sounds like a time capsule to me. Sun Ra: piano, Clavioline, gong Walter Miller: trumpet Marshall Allen: oboe, alto sax, percussion Danny Davis: alto sax John Gilmore: tenor sax, percussion Pat Patrick: baritone sax, percussion Robert Cummings: bass clarinet Ronnie Boykins: bass Clifford Jarvis: drums Tommy “Bugs” Hunter: drums (?), percussion, tape reverb, engineer Ensemble: vocals
  25. My wife fell asleep early and I turned in but woke up and had trouble going back to sleep so I’m doing some listening. I pulled out a Sun Ra reissue from last decade I had little memory of and it’s an interesting date. No bass player, which creates an interesing “space” in the music, sort of wish Ronnie Boykns was present. A radio broadcast from the Philadelpphia period which is one of the final Ra periods I am really interested in. Lots of Ra piano and good Gilmore and Allen playing. Sun Ra “Of Abstract Dreams” Strut cd
