“Don Goldie’s Jazz Express” Jazzology LP Hard not to feel uplifted when Don is playing and singing that good ole style!

No snow overnight! But it got cold. . . down to 15 degrees now, and that’s the HIGH, with it lowering to 0 degrees by 8:00 p.m. Sigh. Cheering myself up with Barney Wilen, “French Ballads,” the excellent expanded cd reissue from a handful of years ago. Such killer music. 500×500 80 KB The original cover:

Listening to this one again before I re-file it in the shelves. “O’Loons Rathskeller Presents Jack Teagarden Featured With The Walloon Young Pecan Pickers And Bugs Resrom’s Richmond Ramblers” Warcloud Records LP A Boris Rose thing. . . some of this is true stereo. 300×300 9.07 KB

Thanks for that "preview." I'm looking forward to mine arriving, probably next week (I have a tracking number but no indication yet that my set has shipped).

32 degrees and a little bit of snow overnight, but none expected today. A bit of a blessing. Lucinda and I plan a nice walk today. First day this week “something” wasn’t scheduled that takes up chunks of our time. Staring off the day with this excellent disc of “warm weather music” --Paula Morelenbaum “Bossarenova” with the SWR Big Band and Ralf Scmid. Paula’s lovely voice is a nice way to ease into the day, and these arrangements are fun to listen to.

Pee Wee Russell “Portrait of Pee Wee” Counterpoint/DCC cd. Steve Hoffman and. DCC did a good job with this, and they chose perhaps the best sounding Pee Wee recording to work with so that helped. What a band! I’m a huge Pee Wee Russell fan. 297×300 6.8 KB Bass – Charlie Potter Clarinet – Pee Wee Russell Drums – Karl Kiffe Piano, Arranged By – Nat Pierce Tenor Saxophone – Bud Freeman Trombone – Vic Dickenson Trumpet – Ruby Braff

Now I was thinking of another cup of coffee, so I put on Bob Dylan’s “Desire” Mobile Fidelity Lab SACD.

16 degrees this morning. That’s a better start than yesterday. Still cold–was out re-arranging cars so that the water softener tech can fit his truck in the driveway, he’s due soon. Starting the day off with Miles Davis “Blue Haze” Prestige Japan lp facsimile cd. This is a compilation of material from three different sessions in '53 and '54. 286×300 7.21 KB

I (too?) got a "shipping notice" (doesn't mean it has shipped).

500×446 28.7 KB Duke Ellington and his Orchestra “Ellington Indigos” Columbia/Impex Records gold cd. This is music I would take to any island I was stranded on, and man does this reissue sound great–also it’s expanded to include alternates in mono.

I haven’t listened to Coleman Hawkins in a while. I pulled this excellent 4 cd set from the shelves where it has resided unplucked for too long. The Keynote label was a wonderful one, nearly ever side recorded is of high quality and featured many musicians who deserved more exposure than they had had. Owner Harry Lim recorded the two “kings” of the tenor, Lester Young and Coleman Hawkins. Sound on this Hawkins set is excellent. This final disc includes Hawkins with Charlie Shavers and a George Whettling group. “The Complete Coleman Hawkins” Keynote/Mercury 4 cd set, disc 4

I agree that is a possibility. As someone named Lonson and most often called Lon but as a kid sometimes Lonnie, I have always been intrigued by derivations of this name, and Lonnie or Lonny is most often a nickname for Alozono. My guess is whoever is lamenting is properly named "Alonzo."

“The Complete Roulette Dinah Washington Recordings” Mosaic Records box set, disc 3 I haven’t spun any Dinah in a while and reached for this box set. I love the Roulette sound of this vintage, so warm and flowing. This is some great engineering in my opinion. And Dinah is such a consummate stylist. . . One note, one breath out into the microphone, and she establishes herself.

Ike Quebec “The Complete Blue Note 45 Sessions” Blue Note 2 cd set, disc 2 This is just the right music for right now.

jazzbo replied to tranemonk's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
It's awkwardly worded but I think it's meant to indicate that most of the incomplete songs run to near completion before the tape ran out. -
“As Time Goes By–Carmen McRae Alone at the Dug” JVC XRCD24 Pure artistry, Carmen supporting herself at the piano, in excellent recorded sound. Wow, always MOVES me.
