  1. Charles Mingus “The Lost Album from Ronnie Scott’s” Resonance Records 3 cd set, disc 2 500×500 29.3 KB 2560×1776 561 KB
  2. Keith Jarrett/Gary Peacock/Jack DeJohnette “Yesterdays” ECM cd More than cool, downright on the edge of cold this morning. Nice for listening but I am getting a late start. One of my favorite Jarrett Trio discs. No, scratch that. . .they’re all so good I really don’t have favorites.
  3. I have no real answer to this other than to say the US and Japanese markets of Universal/Blue Note are independent and the Japanese have always been very insular about their market and cater to it alone. And from what I gather from reading and a bit of correspondence Redbook cd is at this time a bigger part of the listening world in Japan than it is here in the US, more relevant and marketable. You and I listen to cds, and many here, but really this is an island of its own and most US persons no longer gravitate to cds the way we do. Is what it is. I think we'll see a few interesting re-packages and combinations of Blue Note material, but there will never again be a stream of releases in cd format as we saw forty, thirty, twenty, even ten years ago. I hope I'm wrong, I fear I am right.
  4. Just a note that the 85th Anniversary Reissue Series ended last year. There may be a stray individual release (like the Burrell at the Five Spot) or maybe even a new series (seems unlikely this year, maybe in a few more years) but this one has no new reissued coming out within it.
  5. Miles Davis “In A Silent Way” Sony Master Sound SRCS 9117 300×301 7.31 KB
  6. No, just the US version.
  7. Grateful Dead, “Enjoying the Ride” 60th Anniversary box set, Alpine Valley Music Theatre, East Troy, WI (8/23/80) disc 2
  8. Gerald Clayton “Happening–Live at the Village Vanguard” Blue Note cd. Gerald Clayton on piano, Logan Richardson on alto saxophone, Walter Smith III on tenor saxophone, Joe Sanders on bass, and Marcus Gilmore on drums.
  9. Nice cool morning and I am spinning the first disc, “Stan Getz in Sweden 1958-1960” Dragon 2 cd set, disc 1. The system is sounding so amazing these days, I have it really dialed in and am not messing with it, and this material is well-recorded and mastered. 300×300 6.58 KB
  10. Beethoven: Septet Op.20 / Sextet Op.71 Westminster Legacy UHQCD Japan
  11. I have three sets of Vegh . . . and love them. That cellist is the bomb.
  12. Milt Jackson “Big Mouth” Pablo cd Bass – Abraham Laboriel or Ray Brown Drums – Carlos Vega, John Guerin or Nick Ceroli Guitar – Dennis Budimir), Oscar Castro-Neves or Ron Escheté Keyboards – Don Grusin or Lang Percussion – Joe Porcaro, Larry Bunker, Paulinho Da Costa or Roger Bethelmy Vibraphone – Milt Jackson Vocals – Edie Lehmann, Jackie Ward, Linda Harmon, Marti McCall
  13. A recent arrival, Woody Shaw Joe Henderson “Jazz Patterns” Everest/Real Gone Music LP Reports are that the original LP sounded pretty bad. This reissue sounds pretty good. Great playing!
  14. Adrian Rollini “1929-1934” Jazz Oracle 2 cd, disc 1 An early master of the bass saxophone that I confess I like to listen to and even enjoy the dated vibe of these predominantly early dance and vocal pieces. I haven’t played this in a long time and the system sounds so much better now. . .the excellent Davies transfers sound great! 500×500 28.8 KB
  15. It's pretty amazing the results. I've compared the Erroll Garner releases on Columbia and Octave pre-and post-Plangent. The brain just likes the post-Plangent more. . . seems more "real." And that Getz-Gilberto. . . wow. I think more than just the Plangent Process is used, there's a bit of a remix and EQ. . . but wow.

  17. Personally I think it's possibly a better album without any singing. I really like it just as it is. 19. No. Right now, a singer's disc. Claudia Acuna “En Este Momento” Marsalis Music cd In this moment I am really enjoying this Acuna cd. Okay, they’re all really good, this one is just right for this moment. The system sounds fantastic!

  22. Charles Kynard “Legends of Acid Jazz” Prestige cd Reissues “Afro-disiac” and “Wa-Tu-Wa-Zui (Beautiful People)”
  23. Hope you get it. I think you'll like it a lot. I guess a lot depends on how much you like 'fifties Mingus as this really seems to take "East Coasting" as a jumping off point.
