  1. Soprano Summit “Crazy Rhythm” Chiaroscuro LP Wow, this is a hot (loud) LP. I love a recording where Marty Grosz is the harmonic rhythm core, and Gorge Duvivier makes an excellent partner here. Banjo, Guitar – Marty Grosz Bass – George Duvivier Clarinet, Soprano Saxophone, Alto Saxophone – Bob Wilber Clarinet, Soprano Saxophone, C-Melody Saxophone – Kenny Davern Drums – Bobby Rosengarden 294×300 8.65 KB
  2. Joshua Redman “Round Again” Nonesuch cd The reunion of the “Mood Swing” band, from 2020. Joshua Redman – tenor saxophone, soprano saxophone Brad Mehldau – piano Christian McBride – bass Brian Blade – drums
  3. Cold, and a light dusting of snow overnight–more scheduled for this afternoon. It’s one of those winters. Starting off with disc 8 of the 13 cd “Nucleus–Live at the BBC” box set from Repertoire Records. Keyboard-less sessions from 1984 and 1985.
  4. Fred Hersch Trio “Live in Europe” Palmetto cd
  5. I woke up relieved to see there was no snow overnight, none since early evening. . . after receiving a total of 16" in the previoius 24 hours. We are expecting more this afternoon and evening though, so shoveling is still in my immediate future! It’s cold right now, 13 degrees. Starting the day off with Jerry Garcia “Live at the Warwick,” disc 2. 1991 is not my favorite period for Jerry, but there is some great performances in this set, especially keyboard work.
  6. The Bix Centennial All Stars “Celebrating Bix” Arbors cd This music in modern engineering is powerful!
  7. Just got in from another bout of shoveling and am warming up my hands. There were about 3 more inches dropped since I was last out, and it’s still coming down gently. Sigh. I think it’s supposed to end. . . soon (?) Feels good to sit down in front of the system. Now playing Marcus Printup “Nocturnal Traces” Blue Note cd Bass – Ricky Ravelo Drums – Woody Williams Piano – Kevin Bales Trumpet, Producer – Marcus Printup Recorded January 24 & 25, 1998 at Avatar Studio C, NYC.
  8. I forgot how well recorded these tapes sound and how nice the mastering is. And . . . Pres! “Lester Young in Washington D.C. Vol. 1” Pablo cd Lester Young with Bill Potts, Norman Williams, Jim Lucht
  9. About 14" of snow overnight, and it’s been 14 degrees F for a while. I went out and did most of the clearing I needed to before my hands got too cold–just have about four feet of the driveway yet to clear, though it’s pretty thick there due to the county plowing. And. . . it’s still snowing. projected for another four hours or more. . .we could get three to four inches more. The price I pay for living in this wonderful area (as far as nature goes, people and restaurants qnd shopping etc. not so much). Chilling out from all that exercise with Bobby Timmons “Sweet and Soulful Sounds” Riverside material from the German Jazz Plus release that also includes “Born to Be Blue”. . .
  10. Thanks for the heads up!
  11. Betty Carter “Round Midnight” Roulette cd The amazing Betty Carter.
  12. Belmondo/Yusef Lateef “Influence” B Flat 2 cd set, disc 2

  14. Duke Ellington and his Orchestra “Duke '56/'62 Volume 2” 2 LP Columbia, LP 1 Satisfying my itch to hear the Duke and his expensive gentlemen.
  15. It got colder overnight but so far no snow! I’m glad, my back may or may not get another day of rest and a respite from shoveling! Starting off the day with a soothing listen to Eliane Elias “Dreamer” Bluebird cd. Hard to believe this was recorded over 20 years ago. . . . Paulo Braga on drums really gives this one his special “feel.”
  16. I didn’t have my laptop with me when I did my morning listening session–I started off with the 2 cd Japanese bootleg “John Coltrante–Creation”, . . then moved on to Duke Ellington “Jazz Party in Stereo” Mobile Fidelity gold cd, then on to Dizzy Reece “Comin’ On” Blue Note Connoisseur cd. Now, hours later Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra “Handful of Keys” This is one of their good ones.
  17. Thanks for weighing in Chris. I'm hoping they will release a cd or UHQCD version.

  20. I looked out the window and was releived to see no new snow. I didn’t want to have to shovel more soon. For some reason I wanted to hear vibes this monring and so I pulled this record from the shelf. “Terry Gibgs” Mercury mono LP. Terry Pollard really delivers.
  21. "Foundation" Season 3
  22. “The Golden Horn of Billy Franklin” Grand Prix Series mono LP It’s not Billy Franklin. It’s Don Goldie. Very much in the mould of the Teagarden group he was then a part of. Really nice sound as well.
  23. Duke Ellington – “Duke 56/62” Vol. 1 2 LP CBS France, LP 2 This is great music. Sounding so good this morning.
  24. About two inches of snow overnight. Did my little bit of shoveling for now; snow is starting up again. Starting off with Bill Evans Trio “On a Friday Evening” Craft cd Two great things about this release: Plangent Process applied, and mastering by Paul Blackmore. Nicely engineered performances.
