  1. On another forum someone was playing tis Lawrence Brown disc and so I pulled a few Verve Elite cds from the shelves. Hard to believe this series was introduced about 25 years ago! I made sure to get all of them at the time. Lawrence Brown had such a great sound and Ellington loved to feature him. This cd reissue has an additional two tracks compared to the original LP. Lawrence Brown “Slide Trombone” Verve Elite cd
  2. Rudy's then job was to capture it and finally present it the way the producer wished most likely. I am in fact saying that imo others (or RVG for another producer later) tamed the entry in comparison to the earlier mastering.
  3. I don't disagree, and I'm one of Teefski's biggest fans, but on the original RVG mastering that note is blasted out--later versions have tamed its entrance. RVG intended to accent that sonic arrival.
  4. RVG sure managed to give that note weight and energy!
  5. Eddie Harris “LIve in Berlin” Timeless/Solid Records cd
  6. Carmen Lundy "Moment to Moment" Arabesque Records cd
  7. Went on to disc 5 of “Springtime in New York.” Then Jason Moran, “Artist in Residence” Blue Note cd. Um. Okay. There is some great music here but the added voice reading text and the low level scraping and rustling. . . nah.
  8. Bob has been silent in this listening space too long. Bob Dylan “Springtime in New York” Deluxe cd version, disc 4. 798×798 61.5 KB 800×1073 1
  9. Ahmad Jamal “Emerald City Nights Live at the Penthouse 1966-1968” disc 2

  13. Last one today. . . had a few hiccups that I had to clear up today, and this disc is like a comfort food sampler to finish up the day with a calming mood. I love this music! Jose Santos Neto Quinteto “Por Causa de Voce”
  14. My favorite sounding version of this “Monk” title, the Japanese RVG edition from last year. Followed by Jonathan Blake “Trion” disc 2 [IMG]1200×1087 169 KB
  15. What amp did he use?
  16. Andrew Hill “Point of Departure” Blue Note Japan 85th Anniversary UHQCD Not a favorite Blue Note or Hill but it sure sounds good in this edition. Followed by Zoot Sims “Hawthorne Nights” Pablo cd A dectet arranged by Bill Holman and Zoot really stands out. 600×600 123 KB
  17. Végh Quartet “The Art Of Vegh Quartet” 14 cd box set, disc 7–the last of the Beethoven string quartets, recorded 1952. Among my favorite interpretations of the Beethoven string quartets–the later stereo are perhaps even a bit better. 709×584 185 KB
  18. Carmen Lundy “Come Home” Afrasia Productions cd Up early with Fiona the dachshund. Sigh. Great sound on this cd though compensates.
  19. As I sometimes do I followed "Something Blue" with Miles Davis "Kind of Blue." There is so much too this recording, so many times it reveals something new. This time through I was struck by an aspect of the engineering--how whenever one of the horns solos the entrance is boosted, exciting and attention grabbing. Especially Miles--his entrances are so projecting and tonally full. The engineering also reveals how integral I think to the album was Paul's bass playing. He was such a master, especially during this year imo. This time I'm listening to Sony SRCS 9104.
