  1. Manuel Rocheman from “At Barloyd’s” box set. 768×768 110 KB 1280×800 178 KB
  2. Monday Michiru “Routes” This one will test the resolution of your system. One of the first ones that I heard of hers and got me into collecting her work. I love her lyric writing. And she is so lovely.
  3. Thanks for sharing that about your father playing "Another Dimension." I've not encountered anyone else with an early experience with that LP. I really like that LP.
  4. Up early with Fiona the dachshund. Re-visiting this exciting recent reissue. John Coltrane Eric Dolphy “Evenings at the Village Gate” Impulse SHM-SACD Japan
  5. 595×599 87.3 KB disc 5
  6. Starting off with some Carmen. Her voice reminds me of that of “the one that got away.” I love her singing! Carmen McRae “Song Time” Hindsight Records cd
  7. I'm with you John. The Savoy sides (also under Klook's and Nat's name) are f'ing great especially.
  8. According to wiki Concord obtained Vanguard in April 2015. I didn't know that til a few years ago. They certainly seem to have let it languish unused.
  9. Breaking in new output tubes with challenging recorded material. Love this music! SACD edition, disc 4
  10. Kenny Burrell with Coleman Hawkins “Bluesy Burrell” Moodsville/Prestige RVG Edition Japan cd A young master with an older master and that Moodsville vibe. Just what I needed right now.
  11. Abbey Lincoln “Abbey Sings Billie Vol.2” Enja/Solid Records Japan cd Nice soundtrack for watching the snow melting off the autumn leaves through the second floor window behind my stereo system.
  12. Sure. But this whole series of 7" SACD stereo/surround reissues sound amazing if you can listen to the SACD layer, and the packaging is amazing. And if that matters. It has become something that matters to me as my system improves.
  13. Listening to this one again after clearing snow from the deck and steps–themes were ear-worming me so I’m spinning it again. Joe Lovano Ensemble “Streams of Expression–featuring the Birth of the Cool Suite by Gunther Schuller” Blue Note cd
  14. This may be of interest; I’ve pre-ordered. Coming out November 29: Santana [ SACD ] Welcome - Multi-ch Hybrid Edition - [Limited Release] [Cardboard Sleeve (mini LP)]
  15. Carmen McRae “Carmen Sings Monk” RCA cd The woman knew Monk a long time, from the 'forties, and that shows in her interpretations. It’s been too long since I have spun this wonderful disc.
  16. Marcus Roberts “Time and Circumstance” Columbia cd I love this disc. Roberts is a phenomenal player. I saw him live and I’ll never forget his hands speeding in a blur across the keyboard, each note perfectly articulated.
  17. These three LPs got me started on a teenage through adulthood jazz journey. When my father was the first Director of the Peace Corps program in Swaziland (now Eswatini) Atlantic Records sent a care package to the 80 or so volunteers of varied records from their catalog, predominantly mono pressings. One volunteer showed up with a box at our house one day with a dozen records and asked we kids if we wanted any of them. I chose these three LPs, my brother chose three blues and R and B titles, my sister and my youngest brother were not really interested. (My brother who chose LPs says that he remembers the volunteer as Chris Matthews, the journalist, who was among the volunteers my father directed, but I don't remember him ever coming over to the house). I played these records over and over on the Grundig big tabletop radio/record player we had bought in Ethiopia and then moved to Swaziland with us; I still have these LPs and won't part with them, still playable. Each one of these is a wonderful recording and the Leo Wright might be my favorite as each side had a different instrumentalist in the front line with Leo. I was fascinated with these and they prepared me for the jazz obsession to come when we returned to the US.
  18. Listening to a cd I bought hoping to share it with my father the week he passed. Excellent engineering here. Harpist Kyunghee Kim-Sutre
  19. Me too. DEEP told me to buy it. He was right.

  21. Don Byas does appear on this disc: https://www.discogs.com/master/2720048-Trummy-Young-1944-1946
  22. No that is not correct, nor is that what they are asserting. What they are saying is that only on one cd was any of the material released on cd for the first time--that's how I read their statement. (The Storyville cd "Timme's Treasures."*) All but the apartment tapes have been out on European, US and Japanese cds I believe, and a few of the apartment selections have been out on cd as well. Would make no real sense to seek out all these cds though, would cost more than the Mosaic most likely, and include other material than Don Byas sessions that may or may not be of interest. *https://www.discogs.com/release/12607266-Timme-Rosenkrantz-Timmes-Treasures If you want to do some detective work and find the material on cd go to www.discogs.com and type in Don Byas and you'll find Savoy and National material on cd, probably under "Compilations." Then seek out the sessions Mr. Duckworth provided a listing of on the first page here, you'll find many or most or all on Chronological Classics or Signature or other cds: The following Don Byas sessions of 1944-46 are not included in this set as they are under ownership of various parent labels: Albert Ammons and his Rhythm Kings (Commodore – February 12, 1944) Coleman Hawkins and his Orchestra (Apollo – February 16 and 22, 1944) Eddie Heywood and his Orchestra (Signature – May 2, 1944) Coleman Hawkins and his Sax Ensemble (Keynote – May 24, 1944) Mary Lou Williams and her Orchestra (Asch – June 5, 1944) “Hot Lips” Page and his Orchestra (Commodore – September 29, 1944) Trummy Young and his Orchestra (Signature – December 4, 1944) Cozy Cole’s Orchestra (Keynote – February 2, 1945) Esquire All American 1946 Award Winners (RCA Victor–January 10 & 11, 1946) Dizzy Gillespie and his Orchestra (RCA Victor – February 22, 1946) Teddy Wilson Octet (Musicraft – August 19, 1946) Tyree Glenn and his Orchestra/Don Byas and his Orchestra/Peanuts Holland and his Orchestra (Swing – December 4, 1946)
  23. Abbey Lincoln “The World is Falling Down” Verve cd The title struck me as being appropriate to spin today. And it’s a great group and a fine album. Alto Saxophone – Jerry Dodgion Alto Saxophone, Soloist – Jackie McLean Bass – Charlie Haden Drums – Billy Higgins Piano – Alain Jean-Marie Trumpet, Flugelhorn – Clark Terry Vocals – Abbey Lincoln
