  1. Phil Woods, Tom Harrell “The Jazz Masters” Groove Merchant/Solid Records Japan cd Just in from Japan, these recent Groove Merchant reissues sound really good, and I’ve always enjoyed this band. Alto Saxophone, Clarinet – Phil Woods Bass – Steve Gilmore Drums, Producer – Bill Goodwin Piano – Hal Galper Trumpet, Flugelhorn – Tom Harrell
  2. Haven’t enjoyed this cd in a while. I was thinking of my late first wife Helen, and that led me to think of listening to Helen Merrill, and I saw this one, which was sitting neglected on a shelf a long time. Helen Merrill featuring Stan Getz “Just Friends” Emarcy cd That's correct, I just don't have the impression any particular one was a breakout hit in sales.
  3. That's correct, I just don't have the impression any particular one was a breakout hit in sales. But then again I was not near record stores or jazz radio stations, and until the 'eighties not really into that mature jazzman mainstream type of jazz.
  4. My 2 LP set probably sounds better if I can find it, but enjoying a blast from the past. Santana “Moonflower” Columbia 2 cd set, disc 1
  5. That's sort of my impression from others. . . but I was living in Africa from '66 to '72 and then in rural Ohio from '72 to '80 and no jazz LPs of any kind were everywhere. I had to travel 30 to 45 minutes to record stores with limited jazz inventory. . .and I did, and bought a lot of good LPs, but few Pablos. Those were cd purchases for me in the days when OJC was a great choice nearly everywhere.
  6. I don't remember any Pablo LP really being a "hit" in their time.
  7. Sneakin' in one more as I'm still the only human awake. Count Basie Kansas City 3 "For the Second Time" OJC Pablo cd 600×600 71.2 KB
  8. Swingin’ with this one before Lucinda wakes up and this session ends. . . . “Count Basie Jam” (Montreux '77) Pablo cd
  9. I’m reveling in the glory of my stereo with this great sounding cd with excellent music. Eliane Elias “Kissed by Nature” Blue Note cd
  10. Starting off a cool morning with some very hip vocals. Lambert, Hendricks & Bavan “Recorded ‘Live’ at Basin Street East” RCA cd
  11. Probably was either too expensive or not able to be worked out with Carnegie Hall at the time. It's pretty darned good.
  12. Miles Davis “Bitches Brew–the Singles” Sony/Columbia cd 640×637 69.3 KB Followed by Kenny Burrell “Prime: Live at the Downtown Room” High Note Records cd
  13. “The Centaur and the Phoenix–The Big Sound of Yusef Lateef” Riverside LP
  14. Understood. I like having this box set with all the mastering by one engineer--before that I had a variety of American and Japanese series and really no two discs had the same mastering style. But I'm not averse to having duplicates or buying things again and again--I trained myself carefully over the years! And books, recordings, stereo equipment and instruments became my only real mad money vices some thirty years ago.
  15. History of the Grateful Dead, Vol. 1: Bear's Choice, reissue LP Pigpen showcased so well.
  16. I pre-ordered the Storyville via oldies.com
  17. They both sound good Daniel. The Mosaic version sounds a bit "flatter." The UCCQ sounds a bit more "lively."
  18. Hoping to lift my spirits after some news. Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers “Buhaina’s Delight” Blue Note reissue
  19. Ike Quebec And John Hardee “The Complete Blue Note Forties Recordings Of Ike Quebec And John Hardee” Mosaic Records 4 LP set, LP 3
  20. Bob Dylan “The Bootleg Series Vol. 10: Another Self Portrait” LP 2 800×696 51.9 KB
  21. Looks great. . . with Immanuel Wilkins, Johnathan Blake and Steve Nelson it is likely to be quite a release.
  22. Wes Montgomery “The Complete Full House Recordings” Concord 2 cd set, disc 2
